Fucking Newbies

I used to help newbies out a whole bunch, for certain reasons I kind of stopped. But every now and then I cannot resist the urge and I try again only to be reminded as to why I stopped in the beginning.

Some things I just seem to have to learn over and over and over and over and over and ...

I hear yah - Really...

B.Barnato 10-06-2012 10:54 AM

Sir, how do I internet?

Thank you, Sir!

sarettah 10-06-2012 11:14 AM

You can lead a noob to info but you can't make them think.

DamageX 10-06-2012 11:24 AM

Never do one-on-one sessions, unless paid. Everything else, do it using some mass-communication platform, such as a forum. When/if you feel like it.

V_RocKs 10-06-2012 11:25 AM

That makes you a bleeding heart. Don't bleed for them anymore. If you are going to bleed make it for you and your own legacy.

Va2k 10-06-2012 03:26 PM

Yea I hear you on that, but it's that one newbie that understands and really wants to make it and does that makes it worth it at times. *shrugs*

spazlabz 10-06-2012 07:47 PM

Look Sar, I asked for a little help on some HTML tags... I didn't expect you to make a thread about it geessh!

Now how do you make letters fat again?

Most of them are not willing to put the work involved into it anyway so you're just wasting your time.

Dating Port 10-06-2012 09:25 PM

I'm a newbie. Been doing it for a long time and still learn every day. But for all the seasoned gurus and veterans, I found a very interesting post that you should all read:

Why Is It So Hard To Teach People How To Make $$$ ?

I know I shouldn't be cross-posting from another board but this is one of the most interesting posts concerning our attitudes towards newbies and what we can be doing to help.

Turboface 10-06-2012 09:32 PM

I hate newbies! When I was a newbie, I hated myself.

:Oh crap

Colmike9 10-06-2012 09:37 PM

I like answering tech questions, even if they're dumb.. :upsidedow

But then newbs that I help on the board start emailing me about everything and I can't keep up with 200+ emails/day. Especially since my email f-ed up for a couple weeks and I'm still catching up and I feel like an asshole when I don't reply to someone..

Also, no matter how much I or anyone else tells a newb, everyone is different and needs to individually think for themselves. :2 cents:

We are all DFN (Dumb Fucking Noobies) in one way or another. I have always maintained that attitude.

But a noob needs to do their own work, needs to listen to the answer and attempt to understand at least.

A student must participate in their education is what it comes down to I guess.

The best teacher in the world cannot help someone that has no interest in learning and the worst teacher in the world can't stop a student who wants to learn from succeeding.

A conversation with a newbie:

Newbie: How do you do xxx?

Answer: First you do blah blah blah step one. Did you do it?

Newbie: hold on........ok, I did it.

Answer: ok, now do blahh blah blah step two. Did you do it?

Newbie: hold on........ok, I did it.

Answer: ok, now do blah blah blah step three. Did you do it?

Newbie: hold on........ok, I did it.

Answer: ok, now do blah blah blah step four. Did you do it?

Newbie: hold on........ok, I did it.

Answer: ok, now you should be all done? Is everything working?

Newbie: hold on........How do you do step one?

As I tried and tried to explain to you. First you have to decide if you want your letters to be saturated or unsaturated. Once you have decided that then you use either the <butter></butter> or the <margarine></margarine> tags. Where butter is for saturated and the margarine is for unsaturated. Within the tag you can use either the depracated width="NNpx" property oryou can use css to assign it a width in pixels as to how fat it will grow.

Remember this only works in caffeinated html. For decaf versions you need to look up the syntax but nobody codes for decaf even though a whole lot of people say we better start using it because they are gonna force it down our throats.

Also, keep in mind that this only works on sites coded in USAhtml. Europeans don't allow their fonts to get fat.

That is the last fucking time I am explaining that man. Fuck, you would think you were from Kentucky or something.

ilnjscb 10-06-2012 10:10 PM

Wow everyone here is SO GREAT! Damn you guys are better than everyone else! You know a thing and can do a thing!

I'll tell you what, if I see any of those useless, stupid n3wBz I'll tell them to get the hell away, cause they're dumb

Meanwhile, on the remote chance that any of you ever don't know everything about everything, I hope some poor deluded bastard will still try to help you.

Django 10-06-2012 10:12 PM

not stupid.

I'm beyond help. I live in a padded cell.

GARY LEE 10-06-2012 10:52 PM

You have to remember that newbie may grow up someday to be a great contact to have in this industry. I will admit 95% seem to fail but it's a good feeling when someone successfull tells you that they couldn't have made it without the help you gave them when they were newbies. It just doesn't happen often enough.

So true . It's a compliment that they admire you

Zeiss 10-06-2012 11:22 PM

Forgetting how you became what you are is the lightest path to self-descruction. Noobs have great questions to ask that can lead you to great ideas without them even realizing it. So, stick to noobs every now and then.

Dating Port 10-06-2012 11:50 PM

Shit, I like noobs. They make me feel smart even when my own network is spinning its wheels and I'm banging my head against the wall.

I help them when I can and so do most people in this thread if you actually take the time to read other posts on this board.

Taking a little time out joking about stereotypes (something that is rampant on this board) in no way implies I think I'm am greater or better. as I stated earlier, I'm a noob myself in many ways and still learn daily.

Jeez, lighten up a bit and have a drink.

If you are a newbie the last place you should be is WarriorForum. The collective IQ there is pathetic. It's even worse than DigitalPoint.

They have a hotshot mod on WarriorForum that everyone worships, but a hater made WarriorForumSucks.com and exposed how this guy lives in a ghetto. Funny stuff...
http://www.warriorforumsucks.com/201...luxurious.html

I browse WF every so often. The guy who created the thread that you linked to was complaining about how his brother makes a lot of money online, but he can't make anything (I'm certain this is the same guy). This was like a month ago and now he's making threads outlining why newbies can't make money online. See, the forum is just stupid like that.

Dating Port 10-07-2012 12:03 AM

I'm on a lot of forums. I read a lot trying to cull good info out of all the bullshit politicing that goes on. I don't care about the background or who lives where or who did what. Good info is good info no matter where it comes from. I could say the same about GFY with all the bickering that goes on but I don't care about that either. I'm here to learn and better my trade.

If the writer and reader of the info are both newbies, then how do they know it's good info?

I'm just warning you. The people who post on that forum are clowns.

I guess you don't read well enough or have comprehension skills to know that me stating I'm a newbie was implied only and not factual.

Django 10-07-2012 09:22 AM

GFY should close new entries :pimp

Anyone who doesn't acknowledge that he is still a newbie at some level or another is deluding himself and setting himself up for an income beatdown when conditions change.

The key to success is humility :)

I agree. Helping "newbs" has often given my jaded-old-self a new outlook, and many new ideas.

On the other hand, answer repetitive questions from people who won't do the work can be quite annoying...
