Did removing the links work?

Hey blog guys and gals....anyone take an approach to remove all the directory links and start fresh with more updates?

Just curious what ppls results are from this. I'm working on trying to test this out on a few now.

I've never bothered with directories bc I've just really never felt that doing so would make sense from a logistical standpoint and that it would only be a matter of time before G would follow suit. Unless you like playing catch up, anticipating such things is a large part of seo these days.

If you asking if removing links help with penguin update, then no, it didn't help

CYF 10-12-2012 06:46 PM

don't spend your time removing bad links. It's a waste of time that would be better spent getting QUALITY links.

Why would you remove directory links?

another stupid question/post from this guy.

CYF is right. Removing links is a waste of time. Stop using GWT and build and buy more links.

I can't believe the number of requests we get to force people to remove "unauthorized links." I really can't believe they think I am going to chase around for them or shut down our client's server over a link they regret getting.

Colmike9 10-13-2012 08:27 AM

The only links that I remove are 404s and viruses. I have better things to do with my time :upsidedow

I'm guessing here. But I know they did some panda refreshes. and 10-5 they did a penguin refresh. So I think it's too early to tell if removing links helps remove the filter. My opinion is that they are just filtering sites out of results that have too many spammy inbound links.

Just looked at your threads. There is a slight variation between the two of ours but majority of them are useless. Keep your :2 cents: you likely need it more than I do.

Thanks for the constructive feedback though.

I haven't removed any of the blog directory links I have on my blogs, I would much rather spend the time either building new blogs or getting new quality backlinks.

I have survived yet another Google update so I'm not going to change something that is already working ya know?

My rule of thumb is if your site is the money maker, avoid linking out. Sometimes it takes investing in 20, 30, etc. other sites to make your money maker... money. Link out on those other sites.
