A custom Wordpress theme isn't that expensive.

freecartoonporn 10-17-2012 01:18 AM

dont use wordpress.

USE MECHBUNNY.

BNMedia 10-17-2012 04:44 AM

If I was starting from scratch I'd go with Mechbunny.
The script is highly regarded and Konrad and Zuzana run some great package deals.

even though im a wp lover, use mechbunny for something like this.

adultforum 10-17-2012 05:58 AM

I can sell you some nice mechbunny themes, much cheaper than the other ones you will find here.

gimme-website 10-17-2012 06:05 AM

Id go with mechbunny too. Reason.. you know it's going to work.
A custom solution can turn into a major headache and loss quite fast.

TRe$yNFuL 10-17-2012 08:16 AM

Mechbunny all the way.

:thumbsup

No. Nothing to do with Wordpress!

dgraves 10-17-2012 09:37 AM

It looks pretty good but how much would it cost to make into a paysite?

Depends all on how you want to run that paysite because there's a dozen different ways. Hit me up and we can talk it over.

I've been down the road using custom CMS's and they never quite worked out so that's why I switched to Wordpress. The designers were either too expensive, too flaky or both.

What use to cost me $500 a pop can now be downloaded as a free plugin.

I'm not knocking all designers, I'm just speaking from my experience over the past 7+ years of running a paysite. I can't tell you how many thousands of dollars I spent over the years before finally switching to Wordpress and I couldn't be happier.

To add insult to injury, I paid an SEO company $1,200/month for a year to do something that Wordpress took care of in a few months. There's a reason why the following companies are using Wordpress...it works!

is wordpress that really customizable?.. i mean, can i make a clone of collegehumor.com using wordpress or am I better of with custom site?

epitome 10-17-2012 05:43 PM

MechBunny because you can use it out of the box or add any customization you want to... or get Konrad's company to write it for you.

Of course you can. You would just have someone make you a custom theme for whatever you want. People on here won't tell you that because Wordpress is free.

Custom themes aren't that expensive and if you use a custom CMS like others suggest, you're going to spend money customizing the site anyway. At least with Wordpress you can use free plugins to enhance the site.

Both of my sites are Wordpress. I'm not a coder so I wanted something easy to use and modify as needed. Chica's Place uses a standard theme and that site cost me $25 because I had someone make the graphic header. The Gloryhole Swallow site cost $300 for the custom theme. They might not be as flashy as some sites but they convert very well.

The part I like the most is it's easy to find people who can modify the theme when needed. Every other custom CMS was a pain in the ass. When the designer could no longer be contacted, the new guy would tell me how long it would take to go through the previous guy's crappy code and it would be cheaper to start from scratch. This happened to me three times before I pulled the plug on custom CMS. Each new guy would bash the previous guy's work.

If I didn't use Wordpress, I would have gone with something like Elevated X. I have several friends that use it and like it a lot. I'm not cheap and I'll spend money on a good product, I was just sick and tired of the stupid games and flaky designers.

The last design I had made was by a well known company that I won't mention on here and it cost me over $6K. It took them 9 months to complete it and it was still full of bugs. Every time I wanted a small change made they would tell me $500! Now I get the same changes for free as a WP plugin.

I won't even go into the SEO benefits with using Wordpress because everyone knows Google loves it. People bash WP because it's free which I can understand because look at the impact free porn has on our business.

lucas131 10-17-2012 06:10 PM

you must use some videos at the first place

My thoughts exactly! Now I have two sites that always work with a team of coders keeping them freshly updated that cost me a grand total of $325.

No, before I started using WP I had several custom CMS's made and the last one ended up costing $6K when it was all said and done. It was an expensive and painful experience.

chaze 10-18-2012 01:03 AM

Don't use WP there is at least ten solid video scripts out there.

k0nr4d 10-18-2012 01:30 AM

In my eyes, wordpress is a blogging script - not a swiss army knife.
It's never going to do everything that a tube script does, a paysite cms does, an online store script does, etc as well as scripts that are written with that specific idea in mind will do it.

Agreed, best solution always.

You can always buy a premium theme for $40 bucks...Customize the layout yourself, and get a custom header. http://demo.dedepress.com/detube-news/

I know I've said it before but this is a video site that I admire. It's all Wordpress too. Damplips.com and by the looks of the traffic volume, it works.

lakerslive 10-18-2012 04:00 PM

wow dedepress... impressive.. whats the most customized version of this have you seen?

I don't have any examples of sites that are using a custom dedepress theme. Like with most premium wordpress themes, the design can be changed however you want. If you have absolutely no experience with design then, you are somewhat limited to only being able to change the layout of the page, but you can still come up with something decent.

Of course, if you want a completely custom design, you can always hire a designer to create a custom design based on the dedepress framework.

Have you checked out dedepress's features?

yeah i mean.. its great! i just need to have some things moved here and there.. some width adjusted here and there. But it feels like, once i modified this theme.. then, i can't update my theme with the author's latest version.

One mod i'd like done is to NOT have a featured videos on the front page. Is that doable? pls tell me. tnx
