128GB SDXC card showing "Format" and 29.7GB, can't access data on card
So I have a 128GB Lexar SDXC card which I used to back up my computer before formatting it (the computer) Now when I plug the card into my computer it says I need to format it before using it and the format window only has the option for 29.7GB. I made a backup of the SD card with Shadow copy but that is only a 29.7GB iso image. I was going to do a quick format and then use GetDataBack to retrieve the files but am scared since I am not satisfied with the ISO image I have.
Is there any software out there that will read the SD card byte to byte and backup the full card? Or is there a good method of restoring the card the way it should be? I bought a $15 SDXC compatible card reader but it didn't make a difference. Google was no help. |
You need a SD Card Recovery program:
http://www.sdcardrecover.com/image/sd-box.png http://www.easeus.com/ http://www.cardrecovery.com/sd-recovery/ Many of these programs have Free Trials, which is prolly all you need, or you can do a test with the Free Trial to see that it works, and then purchase the full paid version, which also usually has extra features/functionality (I purchased SanDisk's solution). Good luck! :thumbsup :) ADG |

128GB? Didn't even know they made them that big. o_O
Do NOT format the card if you're trying to do data recovery. For some reason everyone seems to think this is the first thing you should do. |

Good catch! :uhoh Just posted that as a graphic - like I said, I purchased a different product, SanDisk RescuePro, however it appears that RescuePro is no longer supported, and people are being referred to another company: http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7473/ http://datarecovery.lc-tech.com/digi...-recovery.html http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...52420338_n.jpg :smilie_we ADG |
you lost money, you lost data.. no chance to recover data.. nothing will help u..
windows can see as 128gb, but in true you can write few gigs.. its chinese shit, never buy sd cards or hard drives from chinese sellers.. they can copy everything, but it doesnt mean its working like original.. |
I'm not sure I exactly understand what you've done, but you could try reading it in a different OS, like a Linux LiveCD. Before that though, you could try TestDisk - http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
Second time in two days I've recommended that, and both times no idea if it will work, but it's probably worth trying |
mkx, what OS are you running? If it's something older like XP, it may not properly support a 128GB card. Did you confirm the files were there after you copied them to the card?

If the SD card was bought from an eBay seller or a non authorised seller of the brand then it's likely a fake which is actually in reality a much smaller capacity card.
Fake capacity cards will report the fake capacity until you almost fill the real capacity of the card, any data written to the card once it nears it's real capacity may not write to the card or may overwrite the card rendering the card unusable. |
I downloaded all those softwares then plugged back in my sdxc card and it worked, I must have been drunk all 3 previous times I tried it. thanks for the help everyone and yes don't but sd cards on ebay if they are not priced right or come from china, they are 2gb cards disguised as 32gb etc.
