So, here's a question.

What do you do that is better than someone getting your content for free?

Could create a really good list of ideas if people share...

I'll start:

Non members of a solo site can't comment on the blog and members can. They are such fans of the girl, they love the interaction they get from her via the blog comments.

What do you do that's better than free?

If people were willing to pay just to post blog comments (since they can get the content free), then the site site may as well just be a blog.

I heard Paul Markham gives away free rhubarb and a bouquet of pansies from his garden to anyone who'll pay to see his content.

Paul is actually an interesting example because he makes his site worse than free.

a) He has content rotation and lies about updates
b) He *still* throttles bandwidth

I know, amazing in this day and age, but there you go.

So, do you make your site a worse experience than piracy, or better?

In all seriousness - years ago I recall a sage bit of advice from a fellow bondage photographer (Lorelei of BedroomBondage.com) who said her idea was to make the paying member feel as if they were 'one of the family' by giving them glimpses 'behind the curtain' (like a backstage pass at a concert) - making them feel like an insider to the website experience. She found it helped increase member loyalty with recurring signups.

Another method is figuring out how to have a 'cliff-hanger' at the end of an update, something that leaves the member wondering what will happen during the next update - much like episodic TV shows. Perhaps somewhat difficult to do in the adult venue, especially if you're primarily working with photos and no video - but with some creative thought...it can be done - especially if you're working with an ongoing storyboard concept (i.e. - a fantasy abduction/kidnapping story in the BDSM niche).

Better than free..
well let us see, I start by refusing to market to freeloaders and ignoring people that say adapt or die. Just because there is a lot of free shit on dumped on the Internet does not mean it has to hurt your business. It means you have to become a smarter business person and learn to how to avoid the freeloaders.

so my advice is to you...

Build a quality product and establish a good brand image and stick to it.
Deal only with marketing professionals that have an established good reputation.
Treat established customers like gold.. potential customers like silver and show time wasters the door.
Forge your own business path and stick to it and never tell anyone what it is your doing differently.

In short adhear to time tested and true business principals and practices. And above all stop worrying about what others are saying or doing and just worry about taking care of your own business.

you may have lots of chins but on that screencap it looks as if your neck goes right up to your mouth, hence chinless.
