Laptop freezes when moved?

Hey there! So, my gf has this old laptop benq joybook r55e (1.73 intel processor, 1gb ram, 30gb ssd)
The laptop runs lubuntu and freezes when moved or tilted (not only on lxde but even in bios or boottime). Memory test shows lots of errors but it is not the ram, i have new working ram and tested with it on both slots - same thing. Sounds like something is either not connected very well or some sensor is fukked up.
Anyone got an idea what could cause this? Possible BGA rework needed?
If you know like some good tech forum, let me know via pm or icq, too.

This is to save the HD if dropped looks like a sensor is too sensotive

Its a SSD (solid state drive), bro. And it's new (1 month old). Can't be it.:winkwink: I thought about that, too.

Overheating due to fan failure? Maybe twisting it the wrong way cuts the fan off as its a defective mount in the chassis

Curious, is it freezing or does the keyboard go non-responsive but the system still works in the background?

Kovachi 11-04-2012 10:23 AM

you can get a new laptop for like 300 fucking dollars. thread fail

I know i can get her a new laptop, i just want to fix this one, too. She has another laptop. The threat is about this lap top. I think it is the memory slots or mother board fails. The laptop freezes even in BIOS when it is moved or tilted (even if the ssd hdd is removed).

Maybe the mainboard is cracked

Could be. This laptop knows how to fly already. :1orglaugh I don't see cracks, though... This just happened the other day, just like that, just because.

Yes. Same stuff. Will go to some service tomorrow. I think it is the memory slots but I don't have the tools to replace them. Could also be some connection to the matrix. Could be lots of things.. that's why I posted, to get suggestions and to see, if anyone comes up with something I did not already try or test. Thanks!

That's a good point too. I have an older Panasonic Toughbook which came with windows - I tried reinstalling windows twice, but for some reason it won't run more than 20-30 minutes without crashing hard even on a totally clean windows install. I have Ubuntu on there now and it runs fine. Wouldn't be surprised to see it happen the other way around too.

Lol ok. i tried win XP on it. Same thing. No matter the os, it crashes even in BIOS without a hdd, man. This is scary and funny at the same time.

Running Linux with a journaling filesystem is a great way to make your SSD drive useless since SSDs have limited write (erase) cycles.

Journaling puts a trivial write load on the drive but is there for protection. Not a big deal, nothing to do with this case.

You must have very cold hands; try wearing mittens.
