What do you think of this laptop?
Im heading to the computer store in 2 hours and thinking of getting this
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=5311919 It looks like a great fast system, great processor, good price. But I get mixed reviews of Toshiba. Is this a good system to get or should I get something else? The Lenovos are too expensive and I just need something good to last me 3 years |
get an I7 Toshiba are really good and durable but I prefer dell.
|
I want to keep it under $600
|
actually, according to this I should get an HP
http://www.laptopmag.com/mobile-life...card-2012.aspx 3rd place 2 years in a row, and they say toshiba is at the bottom in 2012 hmm |
Go big or go home:
http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-m18x-r2/pd?refid=alienware-m18x-r2&baynote_bnrank=1&baynote_irrank=0&~ck=baynoteSe arch&isredir=true 3.8 ghz, 18 inch screen, and as much fucking ram as you want. A friend of a friend had to off load his quickly to pay his rent so I picked it up dirt cheap. Love it. It's fucking huge though. |
It has all I could possibly need from a laptop (including the price). I'd go for it and IMHO Toshiba is better than Dell.
|
That's a good machine for the price. Go for it.
I am personally waiting for one of these. http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/02/a...rting-at-1200/ |

I hate Toshiba laptops...I hate Toshiba anything to be honest. I've owned two of their laptops and they never lasted more than a year before hings or some other shit started to fail on them. I've had good luck with Dell, Acer, and am really enjoying the new Asus laptop I just bought.
Asus 15.6" Intel Core i7-3610QM Laptop (N56VZ-DS71). I love the fact it does 1080p. |
internal fan quality.
|
i know two ppl who bought toshiba laptops within the last two years, they have both suffered significant hardware failures already.

I've had bad luck with Toshiba, had several die on me way to soon. I got this one Tecra thinking it would be good as it is their business line. At 3 months old it started overheating and it would crash after about 45 minutes of running, including after a clean windows install. The worst thing was I tried to take the hard drive out to copy, and found out they had used some non-standard connector that I couldn't find anywhere... not sure if they still do, but I'd never buy another one after that.
|
thanks for the advice. I looked at it and decided not to buy it, from bad reviews of Toshiba, and it doesnt have a dedicated graphic card
|
I bought a 17" Macbook Pro and many times I have wished that I bought a smaller one.
|
Lenovo. Just do yourself a favor and pay a little bit extra for quality components.

Toshiba is like the car companies. They produce something great over a period of time to build their name up and then suddenly release crap because their name alone has so much value.
Toshiba was top notch in the 90s and first half of 00s, but then they went down the toilet. I don't know what they are doing today, but mine from like 2007 is pure garbage. The right clicker on the mouse pad is broke, one speaker doesn't work, one RAM bank doesn't work and the screen is screwed up in the corners. Not to mention it was sold with a defective battery that had to be recalled because it was suddenly blowing up. |
good laptop for the price for sure.
I have been trying to find a 18.4 - 20+ laptop for a few weeks but all I see is 5 year old machines and new Alienware ( not looking for a gaming looking laptop ) laptops.. any suggestions?.. |
My experience with Toshiba has always been good. The harddrive on my Amiga 2000 went out a couple years ago and I sent it back to get repaired. It was a 120MB SCSI drive I bought back in the 80s. They fixed it and send it back free of charge.

thats the feeling I have. Im looking at HP's now. Lenovos are just too pricey to buy something that will be obsolete in 3 years. |

I went to Hawaii, and although I have a few mid sized laptops I took my little netbook thinking it was small and portable. Great, so I wizzed through the airport and suffered for two weeks on a small tiny crappy netbook. Fuck that, never again. The truth is when you travel you travel, it doesn't matter if my computer is a netbook or 18 inches, either way your carrying a laptop bag. I can handle carrying around a twenty pound laptop for a few hours through the airport. |
