Dacia Duster (2012) priced from £8995

By Ollie Kew

Renault's sub-brand Dacia will price its Duster compact SUV from just £8995 when it goes on UK sale on 28 June 2012.

That puts the Duster among Ford Fiesta and Hyundai i10 prices, and around £6000-7000 less than its rivals from Skoda and Nissan.

A new 4x4 for less than £9000?

Well, not quite. The entry-level Duster may only cost £8995, but for that you'll have to settle for front-wheel drive, a 104bhp 1.6 petrol engine and no radio.

If you want all-wheel drive for a proper 4x4 spec, you'll have to stump up a still bargain £10,995. Upping the price to £13,495 buys the Ambiance trim level, with alloy wheels, chrome interior finishing - and, yes - a radio, with MP3 player connectivity.

You can also choose the 109bhp diesel motor priced from £11,495; it comes just in intermediate Ambiance and top-spec Laureate trim.

What's on a top-spec Dacia Duster?

Your surprisingly affordable £14,995 brings you heated electric door mirrors, a leather steering wheel and BlueTooth compatibility, which, above the standard Ambiance trim, makes for a well-equipped machine.

Dacia expects the majority - two-thirds, in fact - of UK buyers to opt for the flagship Laureate Duster, since it only costs £50 more than a base Skoda Yeti, and £1600 less than a poverty-spec Nissan Qashqai.

When can I buy a bargain Dacia?

UK order books open on 28 June 2012, alongside a UK debut at this weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed (28 June - 1 July).

Dacia is confident the highly competitive pricing, and options to extend to standard three year/60,000 mile warranty to five or even seven years, will make for a compelling ownership proposition for those who might otherwise shy away from a brand new car in favour of second-hand purchases.

also probably more reliabel too than most 4x4's and i bet much cheaper on parts.

i bet uk police buy them too.

also such as painters and builders and gardners.

the inside is basic, but so is the skoda. and you do see a lot of skodas in the uk. in fact most private taxi firms have skodas.

Needs more ground clearance... and torque.

But I guess its pretty cool for what it costs.

crockett 11-20-2012 09:10 PM

Not bad looking for the price TBH. Would probably make for a nice cheap car to drive in the winter if you live somewhere it snows.

crizatu 11-21-2012 02:15 AM

Made in my country. The car is ok as far as I know but don't expect any luxury !

loreen 11-21-2012 03:06 AM

My dad wanted to buy one (mom said it's ugly) :)
haha

geneticmonkey 11-21-2012 03:20 AM

No self respecting man would drive a Dacia, ever.

Its like eating in a cantine for homeless people, you get the food , it might be good, but its just so fucking lame.

John-ACWM 11-21-2012 07:20 AM

For that money it is a good car.

Choopa_Pardo 11-21-2012 07:21 AM

I'd rather have a Dacia Sandero.

We have them for a while already in Holland and that thing is hideous, even for the low price :2 cents:

potter 11-21-2012 07:35 AM

It's more expensive for the 4x4 model (everyone is mentioning the price of the 4x2 model), once you up the price for the 4x4 model it's not that much cheaper than 4x4s from other manufacturers. You're talking a thousand or two in difference, and I bet the quality you get compared to say a Jeep isn't worth saving a grand or two.

mamaliga 11-21-2012 08:09 AM

crap car :2 cents:

pornguy 11-21-2012 08:27 AM

Looks like a cross between a Nissan Rogue and a Mitsubishi Montero

jeep cost only grand or 2 more than dacia? Seriously doubt that.

mineistaken 11-21-2012 03:45 PM

5L/100km? Thats almost twice less as other Suv's so take that in consideration.

The Dacia Duster 4x4 is $14,200 (£10,995), The Jeep Patriot 4x4 is $17,900. So it's a $3,800 price difference, my bad.

I though there was a slight chance you were going to compare UK and US car pricing :1orglaugh

Compare UK to UK or US to US prices. It may be news to you, but cars in US are dirt cheap compared to most of the rest of the world.

nico-t 11-22-2012 07:27 AM

that thing is ugly as fuck.
The commercials are horrible too.
Plus it appears in commercials and ads in a beautiful shit color brown.
The name sounds like a vacuum cleaner.
Whoever does the marketing should be fired, they do everything wrong.

Oh by the way, dvtimes is a fucking dense cunt.

mineistaken 11-22-2012 11:48 AM

Just to add to my previous post to the person who ridiculously compared US and UK pricing, I could not find how much did patriot cost in UK, but to compare lets take Jeep compass:
US starting 19.500 dollars
UK starting 17.500 pounds

So its almost as much in pounds as in dollars, meaning that Patriot would cost at least +- twice as much as Duster.

Triple-A 11-22-2012 12:15 PM

what a piece of cheap embarrassing shit...

I'd be mortified to drive that ugly crap

k0nr4d 11-22-2012 12:40 PM

There's a few of them driving around here - been on sale for 3 years now or so? It's decent looking enough. I wouldn't feel embarassed in it, but I'd still be secretly ashamed that im driving a Dacia...

Exactly, it looks decent enough for cheap SUV, people saying its "very ugly" are probably comparing them with upscale Suv's...
Its not ugly, its just plane jane SUV.

My first car was a 1976 Pymouth Duster. It makes me sad to see the name abused and tacked onto a disposable French piece of shit.

Its actually Romanian Dacia Duster, no idea why they sell it with Renault sticker in UK (I mean I know taht Renault is better brand, but why do they sell it as Dacia in other countries, why not only Renault?)
