While at the bank yesterday...

I swear they really lowered the bar for employees at places recently, including banks.

The teller was telling me a story about how this guy comes in twice a week like clockwork to deposit a check. Each time it get's larger and larger and when she see's him again, his balance is only $100. Last time he came in, which was right before I got there, he wrote a check for $8,000 and she said "I'm sure by Thursday it will be gone. I'd like to know where he get's all this money!"

I asked her, because now I'm curious to WTF she is talking about are these personal checks or cashier checks? She tells me they are personal checks from the same bank with his name on it.

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

The guy is floating himself money between several banks writing checks that he can't cash. I'm pretty sure this is illegal but sounds like he's gotten away with it for a while now, but sure that will come to a stop very soon.

I have two banks that I deal with, one is local and small the other is BofA. I can deposit a check into the smaller bank and takes about 2 business days until I see the check taken out of BofA, so that's exactly what this guy is doing. He literally has NOTHING to his name but keeps writing and depositing checks... wow!

Then I kind of felt bad for him while thinking about this more. Probably got laid off and can't afford his bills, so he's relying on this "system" to work until he finds something. Problem is he will probably end up in jail quickly.

Fucked up what people do, but I found it interesting and wanted to share :thumbsup

Yep. Shady and she sounds like an idiot. If they talk about a person who has no money imagine what they see and say about people who actually have money in the accounts?

I will stand there and wait in line at the bank, to deposit a check, even though there is an ATM machine 2 steps away from - said no one ever.

just wait until you deposit a check once into that ATM that is lost, then see how many times you do it again after spending weeks arguing with the bank that the deposit was made and you even have a receipt.

I only deal with tellers, I'll wait. I make sure they print the receipt with my account number for proof. To many times mistakes happened, once in my favor for several thousand dollars, but I was young and my dad made me give it back

That happened to me once years ago, with Wells Fargo. Deposited my paycheck and noticed a few days later it never hit my account. Bank claimed they never got it, I had to get a new check issued. Huge hassle, and I stopped using Wells Faro. Six months later I get a letter from Wells Fargo saying the check "fell through the ATM machine" and they found it when working on the machine. Go figure.

But these days everything is scanned in.

Get your money out of that bank asap.

they get paid just above minimum wage and most are morons

When tellers start asking me questions "conversationally" I wonder if they're being polite, or actually sussing me out. Apart from the idiot teller mentioned in the OP they've probably had some form of fraud training, like reading body language signals. I once asked for a bank cheque for nearly $10k and the teller seemed reluctant to give it to me, even the way she said goodbye was like "the shit is going to hit the fan when they find out this is fraudulent"... I hate banks. Just give me my fucking money. :thumbsup

Mr Pheer 11-28-2012 04:48 PM

I'd have asked her why is she talking to me about what another customer does. That is seriously unprofessional.

TrustedJ 11-28-2012 08:53 PM

Most workers couldn't care less if they do their jobs right. I went to the bank and the teller was facebooking on her phone and sucking on a sucker. That shit didn't fly 10 years ago.
