I've made a huge decision in my life this week. I quit drinking.

So I realized earlier this year that I am not as young as I used to be and I can't handle the 2 day hangovers I get, so I made a mission of cutting back on my drinking from twice a week to sometimes 4 days of the week, to once or twice a month.

But I realized I may not drink so much throughout the month, but when I do drink, it all comes flying in on that night... Once I get a buzz going I lose all sense of self control and next thing I know I've gone through $350 in a single night drinking. :Oh crap

So last Saturday I had my family Thanksgiving and me and my sister ended up going bar hopping with my cousins... Told my sister to not let me have more than one drink in my hand at a time, and no hard shots..

About midnight I had lost my control and was hiding from my sister just to do shots with everyone.. And by everyone I mean, I was doing shots with random people I've never met before just because I could.

Sunday comes around and I have such a bad hangover, worthless pile of shit for the next two days, no work nothing...

I have decided cutting back didn't help, so I made the decision that I am completely quitting drinking PIRIOD.

Today is 7 days sober. :thumbsup

Haha, I hope not. I am just secluding myself from any type of drinking events until I get a good hold on my urges and no longer feel the need to drink.

Weed also helped. :thumbsup

Thanks creepy dude who knows a shit ton about me, but I don't know who he is. :1orglaugh

Also Jaysin isn't my real name, it was a nick I used years ago, my real name is Josh. You can call me Josh if you want, I'm not worried. But if you feel the need to call me Jaysin (which many do as they actually thought it was my real name), go ahead. :thumbsup

I quit drinking altogether a few years ago. No real reason, just got old. Haven't had a drop to drink at all in like four years. Don't miss it really.

ErectMedia 12-02-2012 11:04 AM

Sending address, I'll pay shipping for the bottles :1orglaugh
Good Luck :thumbsup

I was kinda kidding, but really, if I had a nickel for every time I said "I will never drink (so much) again" after a bad hangover, I would be retired by now... :1orglaugh

but that was years ago when I partied hard every weekend, it got old as I got older, don't really drink at all now a days, so hopefully you are at the same stage in life yourself... :thumbsup

CaptainHowdy 12-02-2012 11:06 AM

Quitter .......

Coup 12-02-2012 11:07 AM

At least you've taken the biggest, most important step, madrox.

Admitting that you have a problem is the first step to recovery.

I don't miss it at all either.. The few hours of "fun" you feel while buzz/drunk isn't worth the money or the 2 day hangover.

My hangovers are horrible as well. To a point where i almost don't feel like drinking anymore.

brassmonkey 12-02-2012 11:30 AM

stay away from the spirits. sounds like you have a real problem you may need in patient care. you need to get it out your system takes like 3 months. also you could die from shock if your body is addicted to the sauce. you might want to go by a clinic. :2 cents: its no joke man.

Whoops, haha nice catch. Sometimes I don't pay attention to what I type and my fingers type something different than what I read in my head as I type.

Actually you're at the perfect age to quit. In my mid 40's and only drank 8 years of my life as the rest have been sober. I am the local go to guy when it comes to the ease of going sober. The very first thing you do is buy fish oil, Vitamin B, and most important is niacin as you take them everyday no matter what.

Here's the real problem, if you're a medium to heavy drinker in most cases your brain has stop producing the trigger for a dopamine drop because alcohol is doing it for you. Due to this you're creating a mental dependency cycle, well before a physical one.

Meaning, if you've ever met angry sober adults, it's because they can NOT trigger joy, the dopamine trigger failed creating frustration that manifests to anger. Simply put, you can not find joy in anything for a period of time and why people relapse so easy. I only drank 8 years as it took a "few" years to finally enjoy things again until the trigger readjusted.

My personal belief is if you've been a daily or a few times weekly drinker for 20+ years regardless of the hangovers learn to manage your drinking. Why?- quitting is only going to make life miserable as you wait for the trigger to readjust. Due to you drinking for so long, in most cases it never will and you'll relapse making it even worse.

Thanks for the suggestions! Luckily I'm only 27 years old. I don't get angry. Most of my drinking this year was peer pressure, my friends always wanted me to go out with them, well where did they go? Bars... What do you do at bars? Not drink soda. So I had get a beer/mixer to keep people from being pressuring on the situation, then after the first, had to get a second, you know how it goes.

Now I'm not only cutting out the drinking, but the going out to bars and parties, because they're the only reason I have any real urge to drink. :thumbsup

blazin 12-02-2012 12:58 PM

Perhaps you need to find something to cure the hangovers instead

Nothing cures a hangover but time and not getting one period. :thumbsup

I don't know what the big deal is, of course being especially young is always nice (18-22), but being a guy we have it much better in respects in longevity.

Girls have a lot of power (assuming they're pretty) in their teens through 20's, but they loose a lot of it past that.
It makes it fun with older women, they're so thankful, and I fed off of that.

CyberHustler 12-02-2012 04:32 PM

Good luck. I stopped drinking January 2010

Only slipped up once for a baby shower... and it sucked so I never did it again.

Damn you go drinking Saturday night and you still feel hung over on Monday? Damn thats crazy and I am a bit older than you. If I had that I would quit as well, longest hangover I experienced was till the evening of the next day.. Like Drinking Saturday night and waking up shitty on Sunday and feeling bad till Sunday evening. But still feeling bad the next day..? Must suck.

Spunky 12-02-2012 05:39 PM

The only shitty part for me is blacking out.I hate that. I'm ok if I just stick to beer but shots are like peanuts you can't have just one
