Just curious to see what everyone's first car was.
This was mine. A 1972 Plymouth Fury III. Fucking thing was a beast.
Mine was exactly like this one. Same colour, hub-caps, etc.

AM radio (no FM), 8 track player, and yes... AC.

Before the big drift craze, bought this car with my own money, and wound up buying 2 more thereafter! Actually looking to buy another one as a fun little project but the prices have skyrocketed since theyre much more "rare" now.

A 1982 Chevy Citation 2 tone brown like this one. Had an old bumper sticker one the back that said "Quality Means Business". The headliner sagged, and the power steering pump groaned when you turned the wheel (it sounded like a dying cow). And of course the radio went on and off every time you hit a bump. Friends used to duck when driving into the school parking lot as they didn't want to be seen in it. And they once took it on me and drove in circles in a cul de sac to see if the g-forces would tear the doors off. All that aside, I was 16 and it represented freedom so I didn't really care. Funny thing is, if I ask my friends which car they remember most, they would say that one. It drove us midnight bowling every week. Until the engine blew up on me.

I sold a built 454 Chevelle to a friend of mine who owned one and the engine/tranny actually fit in these f-type body styles. Was crazy seeing him drive around in a 450hp big block Cutlass.

aha - now i know why i didnt know it - its not even a Volkswagen

Quote:

In 1980, Volkswagen bought the Argentinian company Chrysler Ferve Argentina SAIC, inheriting some Dodge / Chrysler models and renaming the company Volkswagen Argentina SA. One of the models was the Dodge 1500 (also the Dodge 1800) which the newly taken-over company re-badged as Volkswagen 1500 for the Argentinian market. The estate was known as the Volkswagen 1500 Rural. Both variants continued to be sold until 1988.

The car, which was based on Chrysler Avenger, had also been sold in Brazil, where it was known as the Dodge Polara ? this version ceased in 1981, shortly after Volkswagen's purchase of the tooling in Argentina. The same car was available earlier in the 1970s in North America as the Plymouth Cricket.

These cars have no parts related to any other vehicles in the Volkswagen range, including the Volkswagen Type 3 known by the same Volkswagen 1500 name.

I had a white 1981 Monte Carlo. Changed out the engine for a 350 from a 73 Nova, switched out the tranny too. Car was fast as hell. Ex-girlfriend crashed it - thats why she is my ex.

Longed for SS or a Grand National but as a teen my pockets couldnt handle it.

Damn I miss that car. :(

AMC Javelin

I remember going with my Dad to buy it, wasn't for me, I wasn't driving age. I eventually got it handed down to me. I think brand new off the lot it was $2-3K.

Wonderful cars! The AC would drive you out, they were big, powerful and would pass anything on the road but a gas station!

I had a '73 Fury III for a few years with the 440. Put a Purple Cam in it, dual exhaust, a shift kit and low restriction mufflers. No fucking catalytic perverters on those big battlewagons and they were faster than Hell!

i still want a ss or grand national. ss's can be pretty cheap but still 8-10k if you want a nice one. its harder to find grand nationals. after i ran the first monte carlo i had into the ground (floor was gone, reverse no longer worked) i bought another one and still have that one today though its rotting away in the laneway. i let it go and am not sure if its worth it to put money into it to fix it up but i bought it with the first check i received via the internet and it has a lot of memories.
