Everything in Australia wants to kill you. Why would anyone ever want to go there? There's a reason Australia used to be a British penal colony - the British never expected anyone to survive.

I think the picture is a little deceptive, at first I thought the thing was about 2 feet long as well, then I noticed, that's not a door on the side, it's a bathroom window, and the frames on them are about 1.5" square, I believe the plywood stop at the top of the window is about 4" square, which would make the spider about 12" to 13" total in length. Still would be 3 times the size of any spider I have ever seen, but not as big as it looks when you first glance at it.

I'd probably die from fright if I saw one. You should see how I get for normal sized spiders...

Mum does the same thing.

I have no idea how they just seem to appear, especially since they are such big bastards!

I have had a few in my car under the sun visor and that is never fun (oh it's sunny let me put my sun visor down da fuck is that..... ) - great way to test your brakes and how quick you can jump out of your car though :thumbsup

rowan 12-06-2012 05:26 PM

I had a huntsman living in my car for a while... saw it run over my roof and squeeze through a tiny gap into the boot, then disappeared into the upper body. A few months later it (or another one) scurried across the driver's seat as I opened the door and was about to sit down. That time I managed to grab it and put it outside. :1orglaugh

hold on a second.... you "grabbed" it?? with bare hands?? or do you keep industrial strength shoulder length gloves on hand at all times for this type of situation??

Same thing happened to me recently, thankfully I was just about to start driving as I saw it and it ran into the door crack. They are big and damn fast.

The golden orb spiders are the ones I hate, I got bitten on the face about 6 months ago, swelled up around the eye for a few days and had a red bite spot for about 4 weeks after that.

I'm so happy we don't have spiders here which can get through your skin.

I have a heap of them in my garden and the ones that wrap themselves up in leaves. Fuckers build spider webs over my driveway each night so when I go out to my car in the morning - bang spiderweb in the face if I forget to put my arm out and clear them away.

Have not been bitten yet *knock on wood*

@ Franck, last week I was putting on a t-shirt from my closet and I felt something moving on my back so shook the t-shirt and a big black spider fell out and he now live inside my vacuum cleaner along with a few nails and anything else sharp that were sent down after him :winkwink:

Huntsmans are scary looking but fairly harmless and shy. It takes a lot of provocation for them to bite you and when they do it's not dangerous. They do move FAST though, so I wouldn't try picking them up. In this case it had wrapped itself around a sandwich bag, so I just picked up the bag and dropped it onto the road. My fingertips were half an inch from those hairy legs. :pimp
