Welcome, it also looks like you can use the code multiple times so long as you have a different mailing address and credit card, we just snagged another 6 domains at 50 cent each :)

You have to clear out your cookies first though...

LIMITED TIME OFFER. Offer valid for new customers in the US and Canada only, limited to a total of three domains. Upon expiration, all products will be renewed at the then current price.

We're going to transfer these way to GoDaddy in a couple of weeks time, so not really concerned about renewal costs at this time, even with the $6.95 transfer fee to GoDaddy were still saving around $4 per domain :)

good luck with transfer

BlackCrayon 12-12-2012 05:20 AM

it sucks trying to transfer domains away from them. you have to call them and convince them that you are who you are and why you want to transfer.

Call in to get transfer codes? What is this, 1990s ?

Good luck with that, I won't register any with them because they aren't going to let you transfer out.

Be prepared for this email when you request the authorization code for transfer out from Register.com.

"Your request has been processed and at this time it has been declined due to recent suspicious activity in your account.

Register.com is committed to providing the most secure and reliable domain services for our customers.
We have implemented specific security measures to help prevent unauthorized transfer of domains to another registrar.
The type of suspicious activity that could have caused your request to be declined includes:
- Multiple failed attempts to login to customer's account
- Recent changes to the account holder's name, email address, or login ID
- Attempts to access the account over the phone without authorization
- Recent changes to the accounts password
- Domain name lock not removed
- Recent changes to billing or credit card information

To receive your auth code, please call one of our customer service consultants at 1.888.734.4783. They will confirm you to the account and then fulfill your request."

That is the email I received from Register.com earlier this year when trying to transfer out a domain even though none of the above things listed had happened. Had to call their support and wait on hold so that I could verify who I was and why I wanted to transfer away from them before I could get the auth code. Also after I registered a domain with them they started calling multiple times a week trying to upsale me other services I didn't need.

Sounds like I'll be giving this a miss!

its just their way of trying to force you to stay with them. a lot of people try and get authcodes a week or so before the domain expires. well they will wait a week and then email you that you have to call to get them but oh no, the domain has expired so now you have to pay their random of 35 dollars for renewal plus a reactivation fee of 15 dollars.
