FFS, Americans...

baddog 12-14-2012 12:07 PM

You may not be aware of it; but since you don't live here your vote does not matter.

Yeah, because people who break the law will abide by a law banning guns.

Failed logic is failed.

Fuck it's illegal to own this 9MM? Well fuck, I guess I better use a kitchen knife to shoot up this bank to steal their money!

unkn0wn 12-14-2012 12:20 PM

Because someone looking to massacre a school full of children is going to abide by the law to shoot up said school right?

J. Falcon 12-14-2012 12:22 PM

It's really mind boggling to hear the arguments made by anyone pro gun. All logic goes out the window for them when this topic comes up.

vdbucks 12-14-2012 12:28 PM

Yes, because banning legally owned guns will keep the illegal ones from being owned by criminals...

IllTestYourGirls 12-14-2012 12:29 PM

I don't get what you mean? The school is a gun free zone.

It's not about being pro-gun, I'm not pro-gun, or anti-gun... But I do know common sense and know that making guns illegal isn't gonna stop criminals...

Making drugs illegal sure did stop drug addicts!

xholly 12-14-2012 12:32 PM

your average criminal will find it very difficult to find a gun in Australia or most other developed nations where guns are illegal... not saying it would be impossible if you knew some pretty hardcore types but it certainly not as easy as finding someone to sell you a bag of weed.

I know the US is a special case

When the government is arming the criminals - and supplying their drugs to sell - it'll never be impossible for criminals to get their hands on them heh

Dirty Dane 12-14-2012 12:40 PM

Instead of asking how, you should ask why.

SpicyM 12-14-2012 12:40 PM

Don't forget they have that high crime rate only because their police successfully reveals most cases.

Not trying to refute what you say, but just pointing out an example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Bryant

Quote:

Martin Bryant (born 7 May 1967) is an Australian spree killer who pled guilty to murdering 35 people and injuring 21 others in the Port Arthur massacre, a shooting spree in Port Arthur, Tasmania, Australia, in 1996.

just sayin, when you see robberies here of service stations or 7 11s its pretty much always with just a knife or baseball bat or something like that, hardly ever a gun because there are just not many out there.. Of course its a different situation though because there was never a time when handguns were legal or widespread here whereas they could ban then in the US and there would probably still be millions out there unregistered and owned by the crims. I got no answers.

Yeah, just go ahead and make it illegal to have guns when everyone already has guns, and see how well that works out.

PornoMonster 12-14-2012 12:47 PM

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/12...hinese-school/

A knife-wielding man injured 22 children and one adult outside a primary school in central China as students were arriving for morning classes Friday, police said, the latest in a series of periodic rampage attacks at schools and kindergartens.

Guns are illegal in Mexico, and yet more people have been killed there (by gunfire) since 2003 than in Iraq and Afghanistan combined..... Please explain that to everyone here.

EVERY gun out there was legally made and legally obtained at one point.

Cite your source, no one keeps records on gun death rates in Afghanistan.

Failed logic is failed.

Such shootings are often the result of impulsive ideas, by people without prior intentions to murder. If you own a gun or have easy access to a gun, there is nothing to stop you from carrying out that idea.

The countries that rank high in the lists of deadliest mass shootings are countries in war, USA and Finland.

you cant ban everything. :2 cents:

Minte 12-14-2012 01:48 PM

I vote ban for bullets. It's impossible to ever get back all the guns on the planet.

Or at least make them cost a lot more than they do.

halfpint 12-14-2012 01:53 PM

From what Obama said in his speech looks like something will change with the current US gun laws

mikeworks 12-14-2012 01:57 PM

I cannot understand why people would want to own guns. All it takes is one person to develop a mental illness and you have a massacre. But it's also the culture that needs changing. Stop making stupid films glorifying violence, guns and now torture.

tony286 12-14-2012 02:00 PM

The problem with the whole criminals will get guns eventually. The people shooting up schools, movie theaters arent criminals but people who bought guns legally.

heh i can't remember who it was, but there was a funny comedian skit about that. basically saying make each bullet $50, that way when a person is shot at they know they are worth it

Joe Obenberger 12-14-2012 02:28 PM

Once upon a time, patriots who loved liberty, in other words, ordinary Americans, rose up with firearms against tyrants and threw them off these shores. Ever since, the story has inspired people all around the world. And the first thing the tyrants do is to round up all the guns, so that the government has a monopoly on the tools of violence. I'm really skeptical of the proposition that we are all safer, more free, and happier, when only people with badges have the guns. I think that invites tyranny. I don't think that anyone is safer when the basic means of self-defense that evens the playing field with criminals is taken away from peaceable citizens. I don't think it makes for a reduction in crime for bad people to know with reasonable surety that potential victims are unarmed.

I live in the last American jurisdiction that makes it always illegal for an ordinary citizen to go about armed, in fact it's a felony carrying 1-3 years in prison. Illinois. The other day, the Seventh Circuit declared the law unconstitutional and stayed the mandate for 180 days to give the legislature time to regulate our right to self defense. 180 days from now, I'll be one of the first in line for whatever permit may be required. Sanity finally comes to Illinois.
