Do they have some kind of consultant for seniors?

I'm pretty sure my grandmother is being fucked out of her proper social security benefit.. She worked all of her life and my grandfather was a hard working veteran who saw action. I'm over there the other day and she hasn't got much food... oh I'm fine she says.. sigh.

Not wanting to spend ten years doing research and getting new degrees in senior care. . . Is $828 all she really gets from them after all her and my grandfather had stolen from them?? Seriously?

Jesus- I feel bad, too, I was in Florida for a few months and at first I was sending her extra money but then I got tangled up (because I am an idiot) and wasn't able to any more

It'd be nice if there is some joker we could go to that would help untangle the mess of red tape and confusion. Notch years, she says? Born in the 1922-1928 she says? Means you get a lot less, no matter what you paid in?

And then they charge her $100/mo for medicare and it use to be good but they put her on a HUGE deductible, now!! Morons. I don't know about this part B and plan A and whatever the fuck else for the medicaid, either.

There she is with a mortgage, too.. and I thought she could get a VA loan but they say now that it is only in case her or her husband died in war or as a result of it... her credit numbers are 530 and 570 and 593 so not great but she's paid faithfully on mortgage for years now (and had rock solid credit all of her life until my parents robbed her blind)

Anyone know of any kind of advisor for this shit? There must be something. I don't mind paying them if I have to- I really want her to be okay because I don't want to hang around this state at all

^^^^sigh, Johnny, your troll posts really aren't needed here. This is the guy's grandmother we're talking about, ffs

@Maxwell, I'm not familiar with Florida statutes but this is def looking into. A few suggestions:

http://www.aarp.com

http://www.va.gov– Department of Veteran’s Affairs

http://www.ssa.gov- Social Security Administration and Social Security Online

http://www.myflorida.com– The state of Florida’s official web portal, with a wide variety of information and links on government services. Go to “Floridian” and search “Elder and Retirement” for information on topics of importance to seniors

If there are any legal clinics in her area it may be worth giving them a call as well. I dunno if they deal with retirement income issues but they may be able to point you in the right direction in your search for info

also check out: http://www.bals.org/our-services/help-for-seniors

good luck

Unless she made some serious money while she was working, that amount is about right. It's not a lot of money.

When your grandfather passed, your grandmother had an option of taking his SS benefits if they're higher than hers. If she hasn't done that, she/you should look into it.

I would ask around in this forum: Bogleheads, they usually seem to know a lot about similar topics.

good luck helping your grandma.... :thumbsup
