USA has more gun killings a week then Canada does a year

"a country that has more firearm homicides every week than Canada has in a year. "
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-1...n-rampage.html

The USA is 9 times more populous so we have 5 times the firearm homicides. I thought it would be worse then that.

_Richard_ 12-21-2012 09:55 AM

what country are you from?

bronco67 12-21-2012 09:59 AM

Canada is probably less violent overall, but the US has 10 times the population of Canada.

seeandsee 12-21-2012 10:02 AM

i will move to usa

Si 12-21-2012 10:07 AM

Homicide rates:

Guns almost totally legal:

USA Total: 12,996 Rate Per 100,000: 4.2

Guns stricly regulated, some banned completely, handguns, rifle and shotguns legal with correct license:

Canada Total: 554 Rate Per 100,000: 1.6

Guns even more stricly controlled, many types banned:

UK Total: 722 Rate Per 100,000: 1.2
Australia Total: 229 Rate Per 100,000: 1.0

I read a stat yesterday that said more people die from firearm deaths in the US than Americans who have died in both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Not totally sure but that might be a thing of the past. I know in the upper midwest and NYC it is not true like it was. The "bad" part of town is pretty nice these days.

L-Pink 12-21-2012 10:33 AM

People don't decide to commit murder just because a gun is easy to get. They decide to commit pre-mediated murder because they are criminals. The gun is just a tool for a job someone has already decided to do.

Canadians live in a perpetual state of compare and contrast with America. Without this dichotomy they are nothing more than America-lite, a parasitic vassal state. As is evidenced by the incessant whining on this forum, Canadians spend much of their meager intellectual resources defining what it is to be a Canadian by trying to convince the world, and themselves, how much they are unlike their American superiors.

Premeditated murder is rare. Crimes of opportunity are common. People do things when they are high/drunk/mad that they would not normally do. So easy access to guns is proven to cause more deaths.

And honestly you have to be jerkin my chain and can't believe what you wrote.

Lololol, funny that the world is banging on the door of Mark Carney for advice. I know you have no idea who he is but he's the governor of the bank of canada. The ONLY country that was able to withstand the recent recession. He was recently hired by the UK to help them out since Canada is doing so well.

From a Canadian (I say that word very loosely because I'm ashamed at being one) who now lives in the US and a US citizen, I will gladly take the random violence in the US than to live in that rathole of a country Canada again. Seriously, the country is a joke from top to bottom.

Taxes are the highest of any western country

Their military is a joke, how much of joke? They sent their armed forces to the middle east in "Green jungle Camo" gear :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh. They are supposed to blend with the desert, not stand out :1orglaugh:1orglaugh Then when the US forces made fun of them and told them to take their forces far far away from the US contingent, the Canadian forces went to the army store and dyed their gear with that sandy colors, until the canadian gov't could order new desert military gear. And when those new gear arrived, after a few weeks of usage, it started to fade :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Their military equipment is so old and outdated, they were rated worst than some eastern bloc countries.

I kid you not about the above story, as silly and funny as it sounds, it is 100% true and was well documented :1orglaugh

When politicians in the US are exposed to wrong doings, they usually try to deny/cover up it, and then if they can't, they usually resign. In Canada, when crooked politicians are exposed, they don't get fired/resigned, the response is almost "so what" and they keep their jobs.

The people are just so incompetent for a lack of a better word. It's like their goal in life is to be so incompetent. Their favorite term is "I have no idea". Their health care system is a joke. You wait in the ER when you are in the hospital for 5-6 hours before receiving medical attention. Their doctors favorite medication to prescribe? Tylenol 3. It doesn't matter what's wrong with you, that's their favorite medication to give a sick person. Comes back to the whole incompetent thing.

They like to brag that they are better than the Americans and more liked. :1orglaugh No it's because the rest of the world is getting a kick out of laughing at the Canadians, it's not liking you, they feel sorry for you :winkwink:

And they seem to think they are the best in Hockey. The sense of entitlement is hilarious because they think they are better than anyone else at it. Always brings a smile to my face when they get their butts kicked by the US, Russia, Sweden,etc.. and then you get a greater enjoyment hearing the excuses as to why they lost. :1orglaugh

I could go on and on about Canada till my faces turns blue. Bottom line is that besides the French in Quebec which I feel sorry for being stuck in Canada (and it's no wonder they want to separate), the rest of Canada is a place you want to stay far far away from unless you are a terrorist. Canada is the #1 safe haven for terrorists of all types. Middle east terrorists, somolian pirates, asian gangsters, etc...they all run to Canada.

Ever since I moved to the US and got my citizenship, I couldn't have been happier. :thumbsup Now I go back to Canada to look into my real estate affairs, and to visit family and I get the hell out the first chance I get. Good riddance :thumbsup How's that for a "Canadian's" take? :)

Spunky 12-23-2012 10:48 PM

I wish more of you separatist frogs followed you and got the fuck out.I would be a miserable traitor if I lived in Quebec.I agree with one part of your babel ..stay far far away

EliteWebmaster 12-23-2012 10:56 PM

U mad bro? :) I knew my comments would hurt some Canadians but what I said is the truth and you probably know it, hopefully ;). Maybe me calling Canada a rathole was a bit harsh on my part but the problem with Canadians is that they are oblivious to the world around them.

ps. I'm not a frog as you pointed out. I'm not even French :1orglaugh

Spunky 12-23-2012 11:10 PM

Doesn't hurt my feelings.
I pay 56 bucks a month for medical and walk into a clinic as many times as needed and get help within 1/2 hour,it's not perfect but it works for me
Yea our taxes suck.nobody likes being taxed
Who gives a shit about military.nobody really wants to attack us,only because of our association with the US ,besides we have our American brothers to have our backs,we don't need to flex our muscle or the lack of

2MuchMark 12-23-2012 11:37 PM

the USA gives itself the right to invade/murder/bomb/cripple economies based on the fact that "you are the greatest country in the world" but, in all fairness, your shit smells worse than ours...

you give yourself the right to meddle in other countries business but you take offence when somebody points out the painful truth about your failure?

you have 100.000-s of armed mercenaries on other peoples territory, your mickey mouse politics spreads over the whole planet, you tell others how to live...so please excuse our meddling in your internal affairs because you obviously feel we are stepping over the line :winkwink:

In all honesty now, where would Canada be without US as its main trading partner ? Just like China, Canada basically relies on the US to buy all their stuff. Take Canada away and the US would be just fine. Take the US away and Canada would turn third world in a decade.

Also don't forget that Canada can 'afford' their healthcare and other socialist crap because they don't have to pay for their own security. The big boys with guns down south make sure the Russians aren't simply taking the far north.

Finally, the guns debate in the US is not strictly about guns but rather about the ability of an individual to NOT rely on his government for anything, including his own protection. This independent attitude, this risk-taking mentality is what made and still makes the US the #1 country in the world. Being the only superpower isn't an accident.

Well Canada is the number one country that the US exports to in the amount of 280 billion per year. So it might cause some effect if that were to stop. Last time i checked the US isn't actively protecting the far north, canada is and while yes canada and a number of countries rely on the US for backup if shit hits the fan its because we're allies. there are certain people that just shouldn't have access to guns, plain and simple. it doesn't mean no one should have access to them. you can buy guns at canadian tire in canada but not assault rifles.
