Suggest a good horror film for me... But one that...

Isn't just all 'Jumpy Bits' ?

I like the odd scary film, with a sense of dread, but films that rely upon half an hours walking alone around an 'empty house' while the music builds to a crescendo, and the killer leaps out, bore me to death...

So whats a good Horror that relies on abject horror, and just not 'Jumpy Scares' ? The LESS jumpy scares, and more the felling of hopelessness, the better :)

The last one I really enjoyed was Hostel, if that helps :)

Spanks !

I recently saw Hellriser 1 (missed this one as a kid) and I liked it :)

Thanks - I'll look into all of the above:)

Another PERFECT example of what I mean, is the ORIGINAL "SAW"...

The ONLY jumpy bit (as far as I recall) was the pig mask jumping out on them / him (once?)

I LOVED that movie - Horror, but NOT jumpy :)

If you don't mind reading subtitles the Japanese do horror in a way that is scary without jumpy bits.

Chainsaw massacre reloaded is out next week in 3d, might be worth a punt.

I always liked the original Amityville Horror with James Brolin and Margot Kidder - especially after reading the novel.

Rather dated now...and somewhat cheesy - but back in the day it had a good impact.
