What are your experiences with Moniker?

Anyone use them? Anyone have a lot of domains with them? Are they a good registrar? How's their tech support?

CYF 01-03-2013 05:59 PM

Years ago? They were great.

Now? Not so much. Support has gone downhill, seems like there's technical issues a lot. Whois privacy not working, errors accessing the registry, etc.

What are you looking for in a registrar? I can recommend a few.

bns666 01-03-2013 06:01 PM

never had any problems so far....

TrashyGirl 01-03-2013 06:24 PM

I lost a domain there, because I could not renew it due to tech glitches on their end.

Here is a previous thread at GFY about issues w/ Moniker. My post in that thread illustrated the crap I ran into in simply trying to renew that domain. Needless to say, I will never use them again.

Did you try and renew a domain that had already expired? Did you call them on the phone or ask support to renew it for you? In the end were you able to renew or transfer out your domain? Btw, was it a .com?

My needs are very basic. I need a reliable registrar with a stable platform where I can renew my domains (manually) in bulk and that's it. I dont need whois privacy, email, or forwarding services.

I also need a registrar with phone support. I'm wondering how often these moniker glitches actually occur? Have you ever had an issue which persisted which did not allow you to renew your domains?

suesheboy 01-03-2013 07:46 PM

New issue is at least one site of mine is having "security certificate" issues with moniker listed as not trusted...will look into this tomorrow and report findings...

A lot of registrars don't do phone support since it costs more.

Dynadot is maybe 30 cents higher ($9.99 .coms) than moniker, and they offer phone support until 6pm PST. Name.com is around $10.25 with a coupon and they also offer phone support until 6pm PST. They're both really good registrars with great track records and both have coupons. Privacy is extra at dynadot, but i free at Name.com with coupon code PRIVACYPLEASE

NameSilo is a newer registrar, and they have the cheapest prices around. $8.99 for a .com. You can get a buck off your order with coupon BUCKOFF. Privacy is free at NameSilo. They mostly do online support but it appears they have a phone number you can contact during business hours. They're definitely up and coming and I've had good experiences there.

All 3 of the above registrars have good bulk systems. NameSilo and Dynadot might be a little easier control panels than name.com.

Often enough that I've been moving all of my domains out of there. I have about three left now, and those are being transferred out soon. Maybe 2 months ago I had problems renewing a domain but I was able to renew it before it expired.

I really used to like Moniker, but not anymore. They've been bought and sold 2 or 3 times in the last couple years and that's roughly when they started going downhill for me.

shake 01-03-2013 08:52 PM

I had about 3 domains with them, and had minor issues with their interface and after reading negative experiences on GFY I moved my domains to enom.

Jim_Gunn 01-03-2013 09:10 PM

I've had a lot of my domains with Moniker for years. Never had any problems so far. But I have to say that the main reason I registered so many domains there was because they participated at the adult conventions.

I felt positive that I was able to meet and talk to real people that I met at the conventions like my old rep Bari and the guy she worked for. Now as far as I know, they are just another faceless company that I don't have any personal connection with if I ever have a problem.

BlackCrayon 01-03-2013 09:26 PM

i never usually need it but there are a lot of complaints about poor support at moniker since they were sold a few years back. its too bad because otherwise they're great.

No, the domain had not expired. This was a portfolio domain. I had tried to renew it repeatedly for about 30 days prior to its actual expiration and it just would not renew (see my correspondence in thread from the link I posted). I put in numerous support tix. Yes, it was a dotcom. To attempt to save it, I tried to transfer it, but it would not transfer out. I called their 800 number and sat on hold for interminable periods of time waiting to talk to chirpy but clueless drones. Moniker staff even admitted to having technical problems. But for over a month, please....

Klen 01-04-2013 02:00 AM

I transferred last domain which i had to name.com where is cost 9.25$ for com domain. When i had all domains on moniker there was a problem with privacy whois plus some minor technical issues. In shortly it's a risky considering amount of complaints.

grzepa 01-04-2013 12:03 PM

i have some, nothing special and i don't mean it in negative way, just another registrar, they reply to the tickets. sometimes after 2-3 days, sometimes faster

Kenny B! 01-04-2013 02:16 PM

I have a few hundred domains with them and never had any issues. I haven't had to contact anyone there in quite some time though, Bari was amazing and still is but she left a while a while ago.

u-Bob 01-04-2013 03:05 PM

They used to be great.

HandballJim 01-04-2013 10:14 PM

I have a dozen there, but not sure why, they don't even allow free forwarding :2 cents:

EddyTheDog 01-04-2013 10:26 PM

I don't know why you would use anyone other than NameCheap.

Sometimes it seems I spend my life fixing other peoples fuck ups - Chasing this and chasing that.

I know that with NameCheap that my domains are something I do not have to worry about.

Even better, I don't pay OTT for the service.

Pornopat 01-04-2013 10:45 PM

Years ago I felt pretty save there but they have been sold and then sold and then sold agent.
A lot of thing went wrong there and I did not have the time to try to correct all of them.
I am happy that as of this week I have been able to move out all of my domains over there.

jrzeygirl 01-07-2013 01:05 PM
