HTC profits slump 90% on strong competition HTC's new phones have not been as popular at those from rivals Apple and Samsung Continue reading the main story Related Stories HTC sees lower sales at year-end Galaxy phones lift Samsung profit HTC reports 79% drop in profits Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC has reported a slump in profits as it continues to suffer at the hands of rivals Apple and Samsung. Unaudited net profit in the fourth quarter was T$1bn ($34m; £21m), down more than 90% on the T$11bn the firm made a year ago and below analysts' expectations. Revenue was T$60bn. The firm suffered from launching no big products in the period, analysts said This is the fourth quarter in a row that HTC profits have fallen sharply. 'Hard to beat' This is in contrast to rivals Apple and Samsung, which have profited from the release of the iPhone 5 and Galaxy models. Despite expectations for a flagship new model, codenamed M7, this year, analysts said HTC could struggle to catch its rivals. "The first three months of this year will be better than the fourth quarter [of 2012], which was really bad, but HTC's earnings might not have bottomed [out] in 2012 if its flagship M7 sales disappoint this year," said Birdy Lu at Daiwa Capital Markets. "The new phone could have a first-mover advantage for one or two months before Samsung launches its Galaxy S4 in April, but in the long run, it's difficult to beat Samsung's phones." |
I used to love HTC. My wife still has an Evo4G and I have an Evo3D.
If they had a bit stricter QC check and stopped producing new phones every month, they might have something stick, but they seem to be just trying to stay ahead of the curve and coming out with half-assed phones. Also, their customer service and warranty service is absolutely horrible. I was out a phone for at least two months trying to get my phone fixed and when they finally said it was completely fixed, it didn't want to activate, so I had to get them to send me a new phone which came out of the box with a dead pixel. I was done complaining by then. Needless to say my next phone will probably be a Samsung as I will never join the darkside. |
whos operating system do they use?

I've had quite a bit of HTC phones, last one was the Desire HD. Now I have the Samsung S3, it's just so much better imo and I spent quite a bit of time at the store playing around with the latest from HTC (can't remember what it was called) comparing it and the S3.
I remember the HTC TYTN 3, awesome phone at the time! :) |

I still have the HTC Evo4G mehhh. It was free with a 2 yr contract from Sprint. Then I found out the reason it was free was that HTC wasn't going to be supporting the phone any longer. I'm switching to a Galaxy S3. Santa didn't bring me one, it was even on my list, wtf Santa.

My wife had one for about 3 months. Was a pretty good phone until she drowned it.

I bought an HTC One X, it worked fine for a few hours then after I did a system update the reception dropped to nothing. I sent it back to the store and got a new one which works fine. Other then that I haven't had any quality issues with this phone other then it gets a bit warm sometimes because of the quadcore.

Everytime I've toutched an HTC phone it looked 'unfinished' to me.
