Applebees my balls.. Trying to sell sidedishes as a meal. THIS is a steak.

These restaurants have some set of balls charging $10 for side dish "meals".. You go into one of these places and they can't sell you anything that constitutes a meal. The only decent meal at a decent price is at the Longhorn. They sold me a 24oz steak with all kinds of shit like dinner salad and bread and potatoes for $29 - now that was a good deal.

Just go to the store and get this:

3.5+lbs of pure love, only $19

As an aside.. she's ready when she's pink, not while it's still bleeding :winkwink:

MrMaxwell. Its 8:30 in the fucking morning and now I crave a fat juicy steak. Thanks, dude. Really. Now I have to choose: Wait 10 hours for dinner, or have a Steak and Egg breakfast.

Fuck me!

L-Pink 01-10-2013 06:44 AM

At my local butcher filet is around $28 a pound. Other than bison burger it's the only red meat I eat. I don't know what you're buying for $5.50 a pound.

Judging by the pic, it was obviously a girl cow (thanks for the zoom on the bloody vag in your dinner by the way :throwup ). I've never priced bovine genitalia cuts, but that seems about right.

I've never been impressed with Applebees, and they certainly wouldn't be my choice place for a steak.

Judging by the shape.. I'm gonna say that this is Top sirloin. Not unusual to see top sirloin at $5/lb, depending on grade. Only thingwith that cut is that it should be at least an inch and a half thick or more. Which gets you that nice crust on the outside, with the cool pink center.

This steak looks a little thin IMHO

Same here. Tough to cut means tough to chew and that sucks.

"Filet or no way" is my motto.

Sly 01-10-2013 08:46 AM

A 24 ounce steak is three meals.

PornDiscounts-V 01-10-2013 08:51 AM

That is just fucked up!

xNetworx 01-10-2013 08:52 AM

Cool thread bro

Harmon 01-10-2013 08:57 AM

I prefer tube steak myself :2 cents:

candyflip 01-10-2013 08:59 AM

PS. Those side dish sized meals are the actual portion sizes we SHOULD be eating.

But being that we are a country filled with obesity, it's not surprising that people don't understand this.

And even then a good portion of them are far more than you need.

Prepared properly, any cut can be tender.

We eat bison instead of ground beef. Very good, much better for you.

And it's illegal to put any hormones in bison meat.

There's a steak house in Manhattan that imports legit Kobe beef, I gotta try them out when I go out that way.

96ukssob 01-10-2013 10:20 AM

Your missing the key element here... OVERHEAD

Try and spend $20 at your house and have someone make you food, bring it to you, clean the dishes, plus pay all the utility bills and their wages.

I have some idiot friends that refuse to go out and eat, or when they do, they price everything compared to what they can make it for and make sure to tell the wait staff about it.

One in particular won't eat most times, but he'll sit there and drink as many cokes as he can to get his $1.59 worth, then afterwards, he'll stop at Taco Bell because he thinks that 6 tacos for $4 is some kind of ultimate deal

scuba steve 01-10-2013 10:31 AM

i don't think of great steak and think of going to applebees either...

Oh man. I would never go out to eat with people like that again.

I knew a guy back in college that would never touch the bill even if it was put right in front of him.

We called him Alligator Arms or T-Rex behind his back.

epitome 01-10-2013 11:14 AM

First mistake was trying to get good food at Applebee's.

Ha! Thankfully my crowd likes to argue over who gets to pay the check. When you add things all up over time we are usually about even.

At the "Fresh Market" in Aventura FL, we get excellent prime hereford whole tenderloin for $12 to $14 per pound, usually that's about 7 or 8 pounds worth, but we just cut up the filets about 3 inches thick and vacuum seal/freeze them. Beautifully tender and flavorful.

...And, not to be a dick or anything, but who thinks of Applebees or Longhorn as places to get a decent steak????

This shit melts in your mouth. I can't spend $28/night on dinner.. Your $28/lb would cost me almost $50 a night for dinner, man.

I usually have a 1.5lb "flat iron" steak.. it's a couple bucks more per pound... but it's worth it. Got this one on sale (I was VERY hungry)

Applebees just annoys me with their ads all over the place trying to sell side dishes as meals. They must be crazy. The steak I'm buying is good shit, even if I am not paying a billion dollars a pound like all of you apparent millionaires.

Well, maybe so, but I am not obese.. and men, they should eat like men. If you can't eat a hearty meal without blimping out, do some damned exercise.

Fast food.. makes me kind of sick. You can have someone do all of that for free- just be reasonably attractive.

Applebees ain't but longhorn sure as hell is. I'm not some wealthy overly white cakeboy or anything.. even when I had money... I want a good deal and if the steak tastes like a dead cow and isn't tough, it's good with me.

They sell Kobe beef at nobu in Vegas.

Mr Pheer 01-10-2013 06:33 PM

We have so many good restaurants in Vegas that I havent been in an Applebees in like, I guess a year ago? And that was after a hockey game with Fuzebox.

I guess in the past 10 years I've been to Applebees maybe 4 times. It's hard to go there when my favorite Thai restaurant is right across the street from it, and Outback is right next to that.

mineistaken 01-10-2013 06:51 PM

12$/kg. is not that low, especially knowing how cheap is food in US, of course its probably cow meet, not sure about the states but over here cheap "beef" is actually cow. Expensive beef is actual beef form male specimen.

iwantchixx 01-10-2013 06:54 PM

No offense dude, but that's not a "personal" steak. That's meant to feed a family. I agree in a way though, I love large cuts of meat too (who doesn't) but in reality, the restaurant portions are even larger than what our bodies require.

Over Christmas break I ended up at dinner at Longhorn with some family and ordered the filet mignon. It was the worst fucking filet I ever had. You should be able to cut it with a butter knife and I had to saw through my piece with a steak knife.

georgeyw 01-10-2013 07:01 PM

Wait, why isn't anyone asking who can eat 3.5lb of meat in one sitting? I'd be throwing up - that is 1.5 kilos of meat!

That's disgraceful, cut it in three pieces add some salad ( this time don't grate the tomato) or vegies. No need to gorge yourself on that much meat.

sandman! 01-10-2013 07:06 PM

i get some decent NY strip and other cuts locally here for $3-$4 per lb usually grill myself a 1-2lb steak that costs me $4-$6 :)

Then add another pound of weight in water and you have a one pound steak (about the right size).

Dirty F 01-10-2013 07:26 PM

1500 gram steak? Wtf is wrong with you people. Here in Holland a normal sized steak is about 150 to 200 grams. A 10th of that steak.

About the same here with re to portion sizes.

However some restaurants have a 1 kilo steak as a 'if you can eat all of this and the vegies = meal for free / half price'.

A few of my mates who are quite let's say portly have tried and failed. So let's say the steak was 1 kilo and a further 500 grams of vegies etc - they could not eat that.
