Best Movie of 2012

For me it was a toss up between Beasts of the Southern Wild and The Master.

I hope that Beasts wins the Oscar.

bronco67 01-10-2013 08:47 AM

I saw almost all of the big ones, and I still have yet to see Zero Dark Thirty -- but the one that stood out as the best was Life of Pi. It's the kind of movie that needs to be experienced in a theater. If it's still playing anywhere near you in IMAX3d, go see it.

Lincoln was great too.

there were a few little movies I really like this year, although I wouldn't say they're oscar worthy --

Can't think of any movies i saw last year that i could say i really enjoyed...

The Ghost 01-10-2013 11:00 AM

Avengers and The Hobbit are on my list. Like movies I can forget everything for a few hours and enjoy myself in another world.

grzepa 01-10-2013 11:03 AM

I'd pick Prometheus

xNetworx 01-10-2013 11:05 AM

End Of Watch was my favorite. Only movie I saw 2x in the theater.

Dirty Dane 01-10-2013 11:12 AM

Argo was good.

End of watch was great but they fucked up the final part of the movie imo, 1) when they somehow were no hit by a group of people with AK's aiming at them. 2) they were not picking up the machine guns of dead mexicans when running from the ambush 3) they could use the car after they shot the guy sitting in it.

Other than that the movie was good.

Pryda 01-10-2013 11:46 AM

The Cabin In The Woods probably.
Followed by The Avengers and The Hobbit.

mineistaken 01-10-2013 12:24 PM

some popcorn hollywood blockbusters mentioned as "best movie of the year", pretty sad actually :)

End of watch was pretty damn good, although, I kept waiting for the "payback" part that is so common in these types of movies...

For most retarded movie of 2012 right?
That movie is so fucking ridiculous. I'm not sure how anyone could think anything else.

Caligari 01-10-2013 01:06 PM

I have not seen Lincoln or Beasts of Southern Wild yet, but so far I'd say-
1)Cabin In The Woods
2)John Dies At The End (theatrical release end of this month)
3)Prometheus

Rochard 01-10-2013 01:14 PM

Avengers was the best by far.

karapandza 01-10-2013 01:15 PM

Dredd :thumbsup

I love the world of Alien + I live SF movies, I knew it's going to rock before I bought the tickets.

Dredd was the biggest surprise for me in quite sometime. Didn't expect much and enjoyed every minute of it.

The FedEx guy should be knocking on the door with my 3D Bluray copy in the next few hours.

candyflip 01-10-2013 01:58 PM

Did you folks that have The Avengers on your list for Best Movie from the past year just not see ANYTHING else?

Seriously?

facialfreak 01-10-2013 02:45 PM

I'm surprised THIS IS 40 is not mentioned ...
I was pleasantly surprised by it .... but I loved KNOCKED UP too! :thumbsup

It was one the best looking movies I saw this year. Some of those slo-mo shots were so awesome -- I wish I was high at the time.

Prometheus? Seriously? You didn't notice how absurd it was? Full of flaws and weird shit that didn't make sense whatsoever?

Ross 01-10-2013 03:11 PM

Dark Knight Rises or Avengers.

The movie was ridiculous. Simply ridiculous. It was like they made shit up as they went along. Nobody gave a shit if anything made sense. Did they even have a story at all? I highly doubt it.

ottopottomouse 01-10-2013 03:35 PM

Biggest surprise for me was enjoying The Woman in Black as usually I find Daniel Radcliffe very wooden.

DWB 01-10-2013 05:05 PM

Dark Knight, Avangers, Cloud Atlas, TED, Savages, Skyfall.

Prob a few I missed but that is what comes to mind.

I liked it too, but it was way too long. They could have knocked 20-30 mins off of it and it'd have been much better I think.

Red Ezra 03-10-2013 05:11 AM

Skyfall and Argo - very well crafted - Dark Knight was a fitting end to the trilogy.
