Stolen content vs Watching ripped movies

I was wondering cause i see allot of threads about people crying cause they are getting their content stolen etc etc.. (not saying that its a good thing) but can you really claim that you never downloaded a ripped movie or mp3 that you have not payed for? Isnt that the same towards the movie makers/actors?

Tell me what you think about it.

seeandsee 01-18-2013 03:56 PM

I would like to see real stats about it shared by some All mighty, that would be much better, because lot's of people will say they are sinless... :)

notinmybackyard 01-18-2013 04:25 PM

I like my music on vinyl, my films on 35mm (or if I can get them, 70mm film), my video game is an old pinball machine and I prefer to have my women physically infront of me not on a webcam.

I also think music today is shit, hollywood has not made a good film since the early 1990s and today's young ladies have as much class and sex appeal as the styrofoam container that their Happy Meal came in.

So I can honestly say that I have NEVER downloaded or uploaded anything stolen.

I also should mention I do not do to other people anything I would not want done to me. Considering my old age I am probably never going to be the richest or most well known pornographer ever born. But I have never bounced a cheque, cheated anyone or treated anyone with less than the respect they deserve.

So consequently I have accomplished being in porn for more than 40 years without any serious problems or lossing money.

The Dutch are very advanced... 16 milion peolpe living on only 42,508 km2 but one of the 20 (number 17) biggest economies in the world (absolute NOT relative); number 9 on the list of wealthiest countries, number 3 on the list of best places to live (living envirement); small but highly advanced infrastructure; the worlds biggest company is Dutch: Shell;

As a matter of fact... the dutch are so advanced that the US asked them to do some watermanagement to prevent New Orleans from drowning again...

Do they teach you in your country about other countries? Or do they only teach you the best way to get your breakfast is to wait in line in your car at Dunkin Donuts while if you would simply walk in you'd be the first to get service?

There is many ways to download cheap music and movies. The point is that you cant sell whats not yours. At some point it will come to a end, someway.

Actually, i think you just got 10 years older and have become an old fart. Ever consider that a possibility?

sperbonzo 01-19-2013 07:46 AM

Regarding the OP. Pretty much everyone has watched a ripped movie. Your buddy says, "Hey, I have such and such movie on my laptop, do you want it?" And you say"Sure!" Obviously it is wrong, but I would bet that almost everyone has done it, no matter how principled.

A more apt comparison might be for those complaining about content theft, and who would then join and pay for, a torrent site or filesharing site, (thus monetizing the stolen content and feeding the stolen content industry into a huge machine).

Sure, that's possible. But I didn't stop partying, I moved on and found the next fun place.

But throughout my life, I have found that certain places or times where a phenomenon of magic energy comes together in a certain way, there is only have a limited lifespan, then it moves on to another place or circumstance. There is almost a critical mass whereby too many people know about something, and too many people angle in to exploit it, and it goes a little too far, and it loses that initial spark.

When that happens you can go find where that next new fresh thing is.

Even this business. In the beginning, the energy, the parties, the crazy shows, everything was much more spontaneous and on the move.

Is it possible that I moved on internally? Sure. But I have seen this pattern through many things in my life. There is a certain period of a special, magic time within a circle of certain people coming together in a certain way.... and then it moves on.

Anyone else see this phenomenon?

Exactly. You are actually proving my point. Things are never static. They ALWAYS change.

Notice how nightclubs open, become HUGE, and then become less and less popular until they close?

Also, would you say that this business is the same as it once was, say 10 years ago? Or has it changed?

.:)

Most definitely, yes. I see it mostly in hobbies and interests I once had...that no longer hold appeal as I get older.

signupdamnit 01-19-2013 08:32 AM

It's a good question but there are differences. The main one I can think of is that you don't see The Pirate Bay at the top of the music and movie industries as Manwin is with adult. To make a valid comparison with what is happening with adult we would have to say that The Pirate Bay is now the number one in the music, movie, and television industries and everyone else such as Viacom, MGM, Universal, etc are being pushed out of business or The Pirate Bay is buying them out for pennies on the dollar. This is what happened in adult and this is what is continuing to happen in adult. The people pushing the piracy have taken over the industry and decimated the paysite business.

Please, I don't want to hear someone talk about how things are great you just need to bla bla bla, it's obvious things aren't great in the adult paysite business as compared to before. The people making these comments typically are pirates themselves, do a significant portion of business with pirates, or end up selling or leaving the business within a couple years indicating that they were probably bullshitting.

The more valid question is how many people here have sites where they are offering rips of hollywood dvds and music albums? Probably very few. It's a valid ethical argument that you are making but it's a total strawman. Most of the talk on this board is against people on the distribution side of piracy in adult. It isn't on consumption. We're upset about the scumbags who got rich by pirating out content and in the process helped to decimate the paysite industry hurting thousands or even tens of thousands of people in the business.

you are right, of course it's the same...

just view it in "real world" terms:
you steal a cd from a store... does it make any difference if you then use the cd yourself, or if you sell it to someone, or perhaps if you give the cd to a friend for free?

At the end of the day a cd was stolen and the store is out of $10, it's completely irrelevant if the thief ended up making $$ in the process or not... :2 cents:
