Martin Luther King was charged with murder following the Jan. 9 triple shooting in the 1900 block of West 25th Street, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff?s Office.

He is charged with murder in the death of Andrew Lamon Stephens, 36, and two counts of aggravated battery on two other victims who were shot but survived. The others were Steveonte Stephens and Deangelo Bryant, but the arrest report did not list their ages.

The victims were playing cards or dominoes in an empty lot when they were shot, police said at the time. The masked shooter approached the three victims and opened fire with an assault rifle from across the street.

King was identified with the help of witnesses at the scene, police said. One said it was retaliation against Steveonte Stephens, suspected of shooting into King?s wife?s grandmother?s house Christmas Day.

King has been arrested 12 times in Duval County since 2004, most recently for a probation violation in September, according to jail records.
