CDN solutions anyone?

Hi,

I'm in the market for a CDN solution that is capable of serving static (images, javascript, css, etc.) as well as video content. (my bandwidth requirements are about 150 Mbps / month)

So far, the only solution I have on my short list are cachefly and I'm not entirely sure that they handle video streaming. I will however be contacting them at some point this week and will clarify this with them.

In any case, if anyone has suggestions or recommendations for a CDN, please do let me know. If you have a specific contact at the place you recommend, that would be great too.

Thanks.

I looked at maxcdn and even contacted them. The person I spoke with was a little less that useful. According to him, they could not do Mbps or even tell me what my monthly cost would be. He was however quick to inform me that they sent monthly emails with discount codes where I could buy bandwidth in bulk.

I like knowing what my monthly bills will be rather than leave it to some email price lottery.

Thanks for making a suggestion though; it is much appreciated.

Figured I'd get a bit more than one response on here. I guess most people are too busy in the gun threads, the conspiracy threads and the "how do we screw up the industry today" threads :)

Shame really since GFY use to be a great place to get recommendations and do business ...

Our CDN can accommodate your needs. Do you wish to discuss this in greater detail? I can shoot you an email with more information.

I wasn't aware that rackspace offered a CDN solution and I went to their website following your thread and I still don't see a CDN solution from them. What I see is "cloud files" which can be used with the Akamai CDN. Not really what I'm looking for but thank you.

maxcdn charges $70 per 1 TB (or less if you buy in bulk or buy using email promo codes/links... they are pre-pay - so no monthly bill)

Have not used their CDN services, but NationalNet.com has killer fassst support. I'm sure their CDN services are top shelf all the way.

THere are not many real CDN providers, but lots of resellers...

Limelight and level3 spring to mind as real providers, the rest are mainly resellers of these two.

CloudFare CDN is its own provider and does a fantastic job for the budget conscious.

I am currently in touch with Level3 directly (through my host) and am looking at the inherent possibilities. I did however also want to get a feel for what was available elsewhere and there are usually a lot of competitive deals being offered.

Thanks for the heads up on cloudflare; I had no idea they also did CDN. I always presumed they were just a frontend optimization service.

Thanks to the hosting companies that have contacted me via email / icq. I will be getting back to you in the morning.

Budget conscious? I was conversing with them via email just a few minutes ago. The gentleman told me they don't do streaming video so I decided to get a quote for just 70 Mbps. The quote .... $3000/month!

That works out to a whopping $42+ per Mbit! Considering that I have had quote of between $5 and $7 from several industry (CDN) leaders like Level3 and other, this price caught me totally by surprise. Taken in context with this blog post it made no sense:
http://blog.cloudflare.com/the-folly...g-by-bandwidth

Don't get me wrong; I am not expecting to pay peanuts for good service or looking for the cheapest service available but I did think $42 / Mbit was a tad steep.
