My neighborhood is fun tonight

Nothing like an armed man barricading himself at the top of an apartment building and threatening to kill himself and police.

Police everywhere on the ground and air with SWAT team being called.

Gotta love LA. :)

CyberHustler 01-23-2013 11:26 PM

Sounds like a blast

Breaking up with London has been worse than breaking up with my husband.

Its a strange place London - I always end up back here.

This year I am going to travel a lot. I have a trip to Africa already paid for (I won it actually) and plan on Aus from there - Lots of people that side of the world I need to catch up with.

I think I will settle back in Spain after that - Not sure though - That London magnetism might get me again...

Your husband should have kept you close. I think I remember you talking about this a couple years ago.

He is a loser, he should have held on tight.

When I think of home, it is London that comes to mind. I was raised in the Philly area but I did my real growing up in London. I need to go back to visit soon to recharge the soul.

Thanks. It has been about two years since I left him. I'm not going to go into details here but it took a lot of courage and emotion to leave but I had to for my own safety. So, yeah, I agree he is what you say.

It is interesting to me how people react differently to similar things. You seem to be taking this in stride, as would I. Just let it runs its course so long as it doesn't involve me.

The day before yesterday there was a situation in the town I grew up in where a guy was seen walking down the street about a half mile from a school carrying a rifle. Someone saw him and called the police. One cop went to find the guy while another went to the school and put them on lockdown before joining the other.

They talked to the guy who turned out to be an older guy who was taking the rifle over to his son's place because his son wanted to borrow it to hunt with. The guy doesn't drive so he was walking. So it was no big deal, everything was over in 15 minutes. Freaking Facebook erupted with locals bitching about what an over reaction this was and how insane it was the the police would do such a thing. You would think the town canceled Christmas and took everyone's guns away.

Rochard 01-24-2013 08:14 AM

Time to move....

Webmaster Advertising 01-24-2013 08:17 AM

They should just let these idiots shoot themselves.

So long as they don't hurt anyone else, let them die, send 1 or 2 cops to make sure they do it right, then send the family a bill for the cleanup.

John-ACWM 01-24-2013 09:36 AM

Sad times there :(

What can you do beyond just let it play out. Where I live is one of the areas where the LA riots happened in the 90's. People here have seen a lot worse. My boyfriend decided it was the time to go out and walk to the corner shop. It probably would have been smarter to send the white girl if he really needed something that badly but we have both lived in a city for years and stuff happens. The London terrorist attacks happened when I lived there. If people panic more than required it just makes the situations more dangerous.

In the small town I grew up in though, this would be the story of the year and everybody would be freaking out for weeks.

Tom_PM 01-24-2013 12:40 PM

Smarter to send the white girl? haha, I love not knowing what the heck is going on :P

To where? These days this kind of shit can go down even in the most secure expensive gated communities. My own neighborhood has a fairly low crime rate compared to the rest of the city, yet 5 or 6 years ago there was a home invasion done on an elderly couple just down the street from me. Their door was kicked in, they were tied up and beaten and robbed.

Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. If you think there's a magical place out there where violent crime can't happen you're sadly mistaken.

SJ -- let's go halfsies on an underground cave somewhere. Secluded, quiet, no house to build. And with the money we save we can afford to install automated gun turrets outside the entrance.

Are you with me?

Theory being that I would be less likely to be bothered by the cops.

Exactly. I'm down as long as the cave has wifi.

I guessed that it was you but didn't want to assume.
My fantasy of having a white girl to run my errands is dashed again. :Oh crap

A couple weeks ago, I had a friend who just so happened to be a black male drop me off at my apartment. We had seen a police car behind us for a while but it wasn't trying to alert us.

He dropped me off, hugged me good bye and as soon as he turned the corner they turned on the lights and pulled him over for really nothing and then let him go.

They waited for the white chick to be gone.

lucas131 01-24-2013 03:07 PM

so any news? :) and you know him personally? :)

Sarah_Jayne 01-24-2013 03:12 PM

No I do not know him. The last I heard the SWAT team arrested him after something like four hours and nobody died.

That is cold.

Race profiling is just as bad as what I call clothes profiling. Sometimes what you are wearing affects how people treat you. My girlfriend is half Japanese. If she goes to a store or anywhere where she ends up asking the person that works there a question they often talk slowly to her like they think she doesn't speak English and other people sometimes treat her like she is just a dumb, pretty girl. She is a dental assistant and is actually close to being out of school and being an actual dentist. If she goes somewhere wearing her scrubs from work instantly people treat her differently because they assume she is a nurse or a doctor and she must be very smart.

"Driving while black" is something I've never doubted at all.
Driving a red car is well know to draw more attention too, and if it's a sports car, forget about it. You're asking to be stopped.

If you're a young black male driving a new red sports car.. may as well just stay pulled over.. sad but true shit I guess.

Don't forget the old "drive a mope car." If you have a shitty older car you are more likely to get pulled over because the police will assume that you don't have any insurance or that you are more likely to have a suspended license.
