Atlanta School Shooting Update: Armed Officer Working At Middle School Disarmed Suspect, Says Chief
It is now abundantly clear that armed guards in shcools will not stop school killings.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_1...ct-says-chief/ "(AP) ATLANTA - Atlanta's police chief says an armed officer working at a city middle school where a student was shot was able to disarm the suspect, also a student, moments after the shooting. Authorities say a 14-year-old boy was shot in the back of the neck Thursday at Price Middle School and his injury does not appear to be life-threatening. The suspect was taken into custody. Chief George Turner says multiple shots were fired, and only the 14-year-old was wounded. After some initial confusion about the nature of a teacher's injuries, officials now say the teacher received minor cuts in the aftermath of the shooting. Police spokesman Carlos Campos says investigators believe the shooting was not random and that something occurred between the two people involved that may have led up to it. Students at the school were kept inside for hours as their parents waited anxiously outside. By 5p.m. children were being reunited with their parents. Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Erroll Davis says the school has metal detectors and officials are looking into how the gun got on campus." Gun Control means using both hands! http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...geRoute015.jpg http://i718.photobucket.com/albums/w...GunControl.jpg :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup |
Sounds like his gun didn't stop that kid from getting shot. Maybe he needs more guns

If he had more guns he might have stopped the shooting. Clearly he wasn't armed enough.

I made it pretty clear that I wasn't too excited about having armed guards protecting my kid. I surely don't want teachers to be armed, but I am starting to see the benefit of having armed guards in school. An armed guard will never be able to prevent a shooting - by the time the shooting has started it's already too late. however, an armed guard can surely increase the response time and hopefully prevent more kids from behind shot. At the same time it depends on the motive of the shooter. If the shooter is a twenty year old man armed with an assault rifle and hundreds of rounds, the armed guard will be out gunned. But if it's a single 14 kid who pulled out a firearm during a fight with the intention of shooting one person, that's a different story. What a damn shame... Our local high school - which my kid will be attending in two years - is considering ending all sports and after school stuff - football, basketball, band, choir, everything... Because they can't afford it. And now they have to figure out how to have armed guards. This is what our society has become? |

Imagine the chaos there would have been if there was 50 people with guns scared of their own shadow! It sounds like if no guns are allowed suspects can be arrested and detained quickly :2 cents: They should learn from this and ban guns all over the country :thumbsup |

It's a lot easier to disarm a kid who's getting in a fight than a murderous spree killer looking to cause the maximum amount of carnage before killing themselves. In cases of fights that escalate to guns being involved, a teenager would mostly likely hit the dirt as soon as they hear someone yell "FREEZE"

Ever try it? :2 cents: |

I'm guessing its a pretty bad school since they have an armed cop on duty. Do you think it would have helped the police officer that was at the location if everyone was armed or free to carry guns ? Or is your entire argument that there should be no difference between "civilians" and "authorities" ? |

My old high school has had an armed police officer and a D.A.R.E. rep on duty for years and it is in the so-called "crime free" 'burbs. You fucking "liberals" just don't get it. :2 cents: |
