Any audiophiles here?
Lets see your setups!
I recently got the itch, bought a pair of older Paradigm 11SE MK3's, a center (CC-290), and I can't have a sub because i live in an apartment, and I'd want like a Seaton or SVS or something ridic if I got one. My buddy sold me his Harman Kardon AV230 for $50. Went from a Logitech 5.1 setup (hooked up to a media center PC) in my living room to that for a total of $650 with taxes.. Best purchase in a long time. I think in the future I'll downsize my towers to bookshelf speakers, maybe some Paradigm Signature S2's for around $3k and get a sub. Waiting on my monoprice order to come in, I have a pair of Mackie HR624 active monitors I'm going to use as surrounds for the time being, but need cables first. |
tits or not happenned. i have my koss porta pro

You can have a sub, just don't crank it, just turn up the gain enough to "fill" that lower end, your neighbor won't even notice... keep it at 8" or 10" at most. Then reduce the bass on the mains ;)

i am but i cant do anything in my house because no one else likes it. I just have a bose system that i can only turn up when no ones home. they hate the wiring, they dont appreciate the sound. they think im retarded. this is why i cant stand their presence at all times
I just like loud, crisp highs and am a basshead. i have 3000watts in my car |

Unseen in the pic - a pair of Audiosphere Research monitors in the back. Bose301's in the front. Most of the audio/video components are Yamaha. |
I have a lot of vintage equipment. I want to use seperate amps for everything, but I am saving up for the yamaha aventage rx-a3020, until then my vintage stuff sounds awesome.
Currently I run a Kenwood-Trio kr4070 reciever Kenwood-Trio basic c1 preamp (volume and bass controls) Kenwood-Trio basic m1 amp Yamaha mx-600 amp (running a 15" subwoofer shakes the whole neighborhood) Technics eq (to shape the front stage) Fisher eq (has 16hz slider to boost that bass on the sub) When I get the aventage reciever $2200 (1600 on ebay) I will want 2- subs ran on an equally awesome vintage yamaha mx-1000 (another 800-1k on ebay) Haven't decided onspeakers and subs yet. I know the sub seems a bit extreme to some of you, but the bass and the control at low volumes is crucial, so you need lots of headroom. Why so extreme? So when its party time, everyone knows it! |
This is from 2008, so it has probably been eclipsed already:

http://www.odditycentral.com/wp-cont...nd_system1.jpg http://www.odditycentral.com/wp-cont...nd_system3.jpg I used to be somewhat of an audiophile. Among other equipment, I still use a Yamaha Pro Amp/Pre-Amp, Teac and Akai Open Reel tape decks, JBL Studio Monitors, very old AR (Acoustic Research) speakers, and a gazillion components I've picked up over the years (equalizers, etc - I have a small computer/stereo museum in my garage). I mostly listen to digital music online with headphones or in my car these days, but when I sit down and seriously listen to music in my family room, I usually listen to vinyl LPs on my Technics MK1200s (I don't collect music much anymore, but I have thousands of LPs - I bought a few dozen diamond stylus needles in case record turntables ever become totally obsolete). My brother used to work for Carver so he has a cool Sonic Holography system with badass homemade speakers. :stoned ADG |

My Audiosphere Research speakers are about 28yrs old - and still sound great. The 16" woofers still have about an inch of travel...the foam has stayed pliable all these years. |
Here's a few pics of my systems. Currently working on a front projector in the basement as well, but that is not even close to finished.
First system is a 42 inch Samsung with Pioneer VSX1126 receiver with 4 Infinity bookshelf speakers. (no center channel) and a Velodyne 15 inch subwoofer. Also have a HTPC there on the rack on the right, 51 disc Sony CD changer, satellite, xbox 360, etc. http://imageshack.us/a/img856/1787/house1t.jpg This is my upstairs loft system. Ya I know a giant DLP, ugh. But as soon as the bulb burns out it is getting sold. It still has a great picture and is 71 inches and 1080P. Have a Onkyo 809 there with another Velodyne 15 inch sub in the corner, with Klipsch reference series all around in a 7.1 setup. I used the same tower speakers that I have in the front for my 2 rear back surround speakers as well and it really makes a big difference. I just wish I had the room to run them for my side surrounds as well. For more bass I have a Crown amplifer running 6 Aura bass shakers in the 3 seats. Also have satellite, 301 disc CD changer, HTPC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and original modded Xbox. http://imageshack.us/a/img685/2392/house2ve.jpg As you can see this room also doubles as my office with my computer desk in the back. Pay no attention to the Borg standing in the corner. http://imageshack.us/a/img534/5707/house4ok.jpg This last one is my bedroom. The flash from the camera kills the picture, but you get the idea. I have a 47 inch 3D TV on the stand there, but I had so much wasted wall space with the 16 foot ceilings I decided to shine a projector above it. It actually looks good in the dark but the flash from the camera fucks it up. I just have a Harmon Kardon mini 5.1 speaker system being driven by a Denon 3312 receiver with another HTPC. (I have one in every room with a TV, which is basically every room but the shitter) http://imageshack.us/a/img715/8241/house3jd.jpg By the way, I don't have a thing for 70s wood panelling, the house is actually made out of solid logs so the whole thing is wood. Just thought I better clarify before the haters kick in.:winkwink: |

It's been a long time since I updated my sound system. I still have the following
Denon AVR3802 Front speakers: Cerwin Vega LS-12 - 300watts Rear and side speakers: Cerwin Vega E75 - 75watts (these really need to be updated) Center speaker: JBL (I forget the model but it's 150 watts) Sub: Cerwin Vega LW-12 - 150watts (Used to have 2 subs, but gave one to my brother after I sold the house) So it's a 6.1 setup. Eventually I will upgrade the receiver and all the speakers |
