Where can I get an Intel CPU cheap??

They still want $215 for an I5-2500K
They must be crazy
I built a box a year ago and paid $220

I can't drive to whatever that place is that has 5 or 6 locations in the whole country that sells them for half off... but I would love to be able to remember the name of it because I think I have a lady friend close to one of their centers... Anyone remember what it is? I think I may have posted it (or found it) on here last year sometime.....

Anyway. I can't stand this A10-5800K. I knew it might be slower than my old I5 but this is ridiculous. AMD my balls.

My biggest problem is single threaded apps/processes taking fucking FOREVER. I don't need 20 cores.... 2 or 4 is fine.. but as far as I can see my only option for a little more performance is to pay a-lot more for an I7 for a 10% performance increase over my old I5. Sigh.

I need to at least be where I was with the I5
To be sure I understand- if I go for a HT cpu, single core apps will get even worse because they'll only be able to use 12.5% of the total processing power. Is that correct? HT would be great to half in a-lot of ways if it were not for that!!

Does AMD not sell anything with the balls of an I5/I7??? I mean to say, what, you can sell me an 8 core cpu that's not a "true" 8 cores and you can't sell me something that can clock work as fast as an intel.. at all?

Sigh

MrMaxwell 02-02-2013 09:11 PM

As an aside- if I go for an Ivy Bridge I5, will it at least be say 10% faster than my old I5-2500k??? I don't believe benchmarks anymore. The A10-5800k was supposed to cost me maybe 20% performance.... it seems like a-lot more.

Those fools charge $300 for a 1999 Packard Bell .... lol .. Last time I was in one man I swear to god they were selling P4 laptops for $199!!!!! Their customers ain't the "brightest" tools in the shed :winkwink:

As an aside: I looked at the benches again and it's no small wonder than I hate the A10 so much http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/675?vs=288

Looks like AT LEAST a 10% gain for the 3570 over the 2500 http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/701?vs=288

So now here I am all use to using the AMD.. By the time I go back to the I5 and a faster version of it, yet, I should end up happy. But can ANYONE tell me where I can NOT PAY $225 for it?! jesus

MrMaxwell 02-02-2013 09:20 PM

Now I get to find out how much more a Z77 mobo is gonna cost
Last time I got a nice board for $90 and Z68 was the best chipset
I kinda doubt that will happen for the 3570

sarettah 02-02-2013 09:26 PM

Microcenter has it for $140 http://www.microcenter.com/product/4...rocessor_-_OEM In store only.

The store in Overland Park is at like 91st and Metcalf. Only a couple or three hours drive if you are still down in Hutchison.

I had a Q8300 for a long time and a Q9550 12mb after that- they sure were solid processors. I think the best overclocker back then was the Q6600 or whatever it was, though.

Sure if you know a guy or something... that'd be fkn beautiful.. I don't happen to, though :(

pgmorin 02-02-2013 10:10 PM

I have a i5 2500k like you and even without overclocking it all my videos editing and photoshop job are really fast so I have a hard time understrand why it so slow for you. What application is been a pain? mable the probleme is something else.

Also that proc can overclock from 3.30 to 4.2 on the stock fan without any problem.

Why don't you look at the site and see? Most sites have a list of their stores, ya know?

I sold the box with the I5-2500k in it... and tried out and A10-5800k AMD processor
Now I'm going to go back to the I5
I wouldn't really call the I5 a speed demon but it was a damned hell of a-lot better than this :winkwink:

better still, just break into a neighbours house when they are out, and help yourself to a 'new' computer system...

Kasumi 02-03-2013 02:09 AM

anexsia 02-03-2013 05:11 AM

I paid $169.99 for my 2500k at Microcenter.

woj 02-03-2013 06:15 AM

ebay might be a decent option too

Mr Pheer 02-03-2013 07:19 AM

you just get discounts? or unreleased products too?

MrBottomTooth 02-03-2013 08:24 AM

Just quit pissing around and go get the fastest i7 you can afford. You've probably wasted more money switching back and forth between your crappy systems than you would have spent just getting a good setup to begin with.

Okay, that was creepy. I was just getting ready to go there. I need a couple of case fans, a cheap hard drive and some more thermal paste for a machine I am Frankensteining together.

Joshua G 02-03-2013 12:48 PM

best bet is to get a job as an apple store genius, & swap out the CPU you want out of a customers mac who gave it to you to repair.

Just discounts, and lots of insider info about stuff, like how weird Apple is about ordering their processors.

Apple is a stupid company, inside and out and all the way through.
Steve jobs was a moron and we can do without people who think like him.

People want to be free and not choked by censorship and proprietary bullshit all over the place and their prices are ridiculous.

Companies like aapl (AND microsoft) won't survive in the future. They're so use to getting away with murder because they're so big, fine, but that's not the future.

Fuck you Adam. All I did was try to help you.

You are such a lowlife piece of shit I don't know why I bothered in the first place.

My apologies as it will not happen again.
