"thousands of new Internet extensions due to be approved in 2013 and go live in 2014"

Read this a few days ago. You think there will be thousands?

StickyGreen 02-04-2013 07:17 PM

I could see them introducing a bunch of new ones... but not thousands lol

pimpmaster9000 02-04-2013 07:29 PM

yes there is so much need for more shitty extensions that hundreds simply would not suffice...thousands are called for...

Relentless 02-04-2013 07:38 PM

.video, .news, .brandname, .etc

It's all coming. Congrats to those whose .xxx domains will be out there competing with .porn, .sex, .adult, .cum and all the rest...

2013 02-04-2013 07:39 PM

.go.fuck.yourself.

PornMD 02-04-2013 07:49 PM

There haven't been applications for "thousands", so unless they open up another round of applications before they even approve the first round, no there won't be thousands. So many people misunderstand this process and a lot of those people are journalists unfortunately.

RyuLion 02-04-2013 08:07 PM

Tons of people will be burning more $$$..specially n00bs..

XSV 02-04-2013 09:45 PM

I'm having a hard time thinking of the last worthwhile site I visited that wasn't a .com.

2MuchMark 02-04-2013 09:59 PM

So I guess this makes the whole .xxx argument a moot point?

Maybe some were duplicates but 1,930 applications counts as "thousands" for me :2 cents:

As i've always said. .xxx was, is and will be 100% irrelevant.

BlackCrayon 02-05-2013 05:36 AM

there will be hundreds, not thousands but still enough to confuse the consumer however i think these things will fail before the general public even really knows they exist. besides some cool ones like download.music or buy.homes the rest will be another .mobi, .asia, .tv, .biz, etc.

Phoenix 02-05-2013 05:38 AM

a few are surely going to be a hit.

but i can see a lot of companies are going to waste money on this

Google Expert 02-05-2013 05:40 AM

this will make .com even more valuable

JamesM 02-05-2013 05:44 AM

its pure business.

bl4h 02-05-2013 05:44 AM

its to the point where you can remember the domain but cant remember the extension. used to be the other way around. there will be a few more years of weasels selling domains to suckers for much more than theyre worth. reminds me of the housing bubble

MrMaxwell 02-05-2013 05:50 AM

This .anything shit will be a thing of the past someday in most of our lifetimes.
As far as I'm concerned, though, motherfuck any tld but .com
.com is how it should be

It can't be .com forever, though. Not enough real estate.

AdultKing 02-05-2013 05:54 AM

With the mesh between search and url fields on modern browsers the actual domain name is becoming less and less relevant.

I was watching this the other day while waiting at our local library, people on the computers there were just typing the name of the site into the url/search of the browser.

ya its true. just look at your keyword statistics. I still type http:// like an idiot while i no longer need to.

its hard to predict the future. people just want to say or think "go fuck yourself forum" and instantly be there. they dont want to keep a rolodex of domain names

I can see most of the people type our domain name in bar (without .com) to then get it in google and click the google result. So it looks like we got so much google traffic from stats, but looking better, they just use google to find tubecamgirl URL to click, instead of type http://www.tubecamgirl.com and go directly. Some do this with bing and yahoo too.

I would think the assholes who conned us into .xxx would hate this news. :thumbsup

adultmobile 02-05-2013 01:28 PM

They could do the inverse registration so everyone can register own extension:

Instead of sitename.com, do com.sitename.
This way I register com.tubecamgirl , com.chatgf and all my domain names as an extension of com. domain.

Your last comment was the only accurate part of your post.

Maybe if every site was a porn site, but there is a huge world out there beyond adult. Like Mr Maxwell pointed out, "It can't be .com forever, though. Not enough real estate."
