New in adult business, trying to understand something....

hi to everybody this is my first post.

I am web developer who is for past 5-6 years in IM (developed for others for first 1- years, that started to work almost only own sites)

An mostly of time (until now) i was in
- affiliate business (real products, drop shipping, price compare sites, etc)
- web apps (software as service solutions)

Any case, never been in adult business. I got picture that adult (and maybe gambling) is maybe market with strongest competition, but on the other side with largest market.

So my idea is to enter this market with only one project(site) but since don't have experience, read this forum and many other statistical data that I found around about adult industry, market, some numbers etc, but still don't have 'clear picture' so if you can give me you estimations on those questions in terms of focusing my future project:

1) 'professional' porn VS amateur porn
2) adult affilite VS operating own business
3) 'staright' VS gay/lesbian
4) hooking up site VS dating site VS cam site with professional models

I hope you can give me your tough, I have few ideas, but still didn't decided so need some 'direction' from others...

Welcome dude. I am new too, very awesome and helpful site here. GFY is amazing

Rochard 02-06-2013 10:49 AM

Welcome to GFY.

Fuckers didn't even try with his questions.

1) 'professional' porn VS amateur porn - I would go with professional porn. Amateur porn just looks crappy. I've sold lots of amateur porn, but I think the trend is professional.

2) adult affilite VS operating own business - Affiliate is much easier; All you need to do is set up your own sites and try to push traffic. You can do what you want and no one will say boo to you. Open up your program and everything you do is subject to review and approval right here on GFY. Say the wrong thing - lie about one thing here - you'll be called out, crushed, and put out of business. I would imagine owning your own business would have a bigger pay off these days, but not by much. You missed the good days.

3) 'staright' VS gay/lesbian - That's up to you. Gay has always done very well really. But you should push what you are into. If you are into chicks who deep throat, do that. If you are into men who deep throat, do that.

4) hooking up site VS dating site VS cam site with professional models - I work in dating myself so keep in mind my thoughts here might be biased... Dating and cams are becoming bigger and bigger. The Internet has always been full of free porn, and now even more so with tube sites, but live entertainment is always going to be big. Dating too - Every is looking for something.

Good luck.

The answer is all of the above.

1. Cross market amateur and pro
2. You can be an affiliate and own your own business, run your own sites too, etc.
3. straight, gay, lesbian, tranny... it isn't about what it is so much as about finding the right customers to buy it and there is plenty of places where the line blurs for further cross marketing; i.e., straight guys like lesbian porn, females like gay, straight guys buy tranny, gay guys buy straight porn etc.
4. dating, cams, hook ups, all ways to add income to the bottom line and none of them cancel out the other

1) Unless it is some ass hole uploading his home made vidéo having sex with his fat girl friend. Amateur does not exist. It is all made by many of the same studios that create the so called "professional" porn.
However I should say that I would not call 90% of today's pornographers professionels or even competent
2) Unless someone is either
  • a) a producer making films.
  • b) a performer being filmed having sex.
  • c) Someone that can find and bring potential porn performers.
Then that person regardless of whatever job title they give themselves, has no business being in the porn industry. (This includes affiliates and another other punter looking to earn a dollar for jerking off to our product)
3) **Did you really need clairification on this ? **
  • a) Straight = Men having sex with women.. and women having sex with men.
  • b) Gay = men having sex with men
  • c) Lesbienne = women having sex with women

4)
  • a) Dating sites = thousands of fake profils, men pretending to be women, stolen photos and men from arab nations searching for dirty talk and a free webcam show. (Create an alternative to facebook and you might have a chance)
  • b) All cam sites = webmasters that fail to attract customers and therefore desperately create a bunch of *free* scams like "tips" and "tokens.
As for the "models" They are a bunch of porn performers slowly becoming broke and penniless who will quickly discouver that escorting is easier, makes more money and is less of a headache and will therefore dump the webcam site because of it being a waste of time.

Amazingly helpful. He might as well quit before he ends up wanting to kill his neighbors cat and blow up the post office.

Respectfully disagree.

1. Amateur porn still dominates the market. The biggest programs still have more amateur than pro and the so-called new glam porn market might seem like the next big thing at the moment but it is pretty much DOA and doesn't stick once people see how boring it tends to be.

2. While I agree that being an affiliate first is a way to get started, I disagree with what you are saying about running a program. Why would he have to worry about people calling him out as a liar if he runs a straightforward and honest program?

3. You don't have to promote only what you are into; although, I do that is true if you are acting as content as well, but when it comes to selling, you just have to be good at figuring out what the customer likes. That can be learned without having to necessarily "be into it".

4. Ok, yes, that is biased and doesn't make sense to me considering how long you have been in this biz. Tell me one major program that doesn't juggle all those - dating, cams, hookups?

In porn there is money. But it is not on the Internet.

Perhaps I suppose it depends on what you consider making money. I am certain there is enough money left in Internet porn for anyone that wants to buy a bag of weed or save up for a new Igadget.

But your entire program is based on amateur porn. So of course you think amateur porn sells best. For your market and your traffic - years and years and YEARS of it - yeah, you see that.

All of the content I see is slick and well produced.

Remember the Apple Twins? They came blazing on here and told everyone how they knew best and now no one will will do business with them.

There's a long list of them.

You are different because everyone knows you (and everyone knows your insane!)

You can sell anything, but if you believe in it you'll do better. That's my belief anyhow. If I was selling Toyotas I might just kill myself.

Everyone is juggling it all. But ten years ago no one of us were doing dating. Now everyone is.

welcome to the zoo

Angelicion 02-06-2013 04:10 PM

Hello & welcome amateurWebmaster,

It is important that whatever you decide to promote, you must know it. As such, whatever you like in adult, I suggest you promoting just that in the beginning because what you like is probably what your visitor like and wants.

For example, if you like models with certain physical specifics such as big breasts, I suggest you to begin with a site promoting big breasted models and contents. It's simply easier because you can relate to what your visitors expect.

Don't be afraid to ask for help. There may be one or more individuals not willing to help, even going as far as denigrate you, but there are also individuals always willing to help you on message boards.

Kind Regards,
Angelicion

What data are you basing that on?

Some people like amateur, some glossy professional, some balloon popping.

How do you get this traffic to push? Remember, this is a noob asking the questions. Thinking that if you put up a site traffic will just arrive is wrong.

Also, now most programmes are moving to inhouse traffic generation and ignoring affiliates, I am unsure your recommendation of going the affiliate route is sensible.

DamianJ 02-08-2013 06:10 AM

To answer your questions:

1) 'professional' porn VS amateur porn

Depends on the traffic you are planning on getting. If it is professional traffic, then professional porn. If it is amateur traffic, then amateur porn. If it is midgets shitting on a sidewalk, then midget shitting on sidewalk porn.

2) adult affilite VS operating own business

Too many factors to take in here really. Becoming an affiliate is as easy a buying a domain and some hosting and putting up a landing page. Then worry about getting the right traffic for the right sponsor.

Setting up your own programme is very different, and will require you working with a consultant with experience and having money.

3) 'staright' VS gay/lesbian

See 1)

4) hooking up site VS dating site VS cam site with professional models

Why not try all and see which works best for you?

_Richard_ 02-08-2013 09:14 AM

what do you mean 'real products'?
