Why should they bother? There are endless government handouts.

It use to be shameful to not work and support yourself and/or family. Now it appears there is more shame in working at McDonalds (or other low end jobs) then sitting at home smoking, watching MTV cribs, and sitting on your fat ass.

Working those sort of jobs, in their mind, is somehow "beneath them". Yet sitting around collecting government handouts isn't.

Where are these gouvernement hand outs ? Because I want one. The only handouts the gouverment is giving is to multi national corporations that kill jobs and export work to third world nations.

I am a grandfather and I will tell you what is behind what I said.
  1. 1) We do not support jobs in our own nations
All the webkiddie toys that people line up to buy.
These toys are manufactured in China and all the money that should stay in our nations goes there. End result... Go work at McDonalds
  2. 2) The do-it-for-you technology.
Garbage technology that gives unskilled dummies the ablity to to do the job of a tradesman.
A good example of what I am talking about is the average photographer in today's porn industry. When was the last time any of them know what an F-Stop was? Or how to turn the automatic setting off? Today's photography equipment is a billion mega pixels high tech piece of technology designed to be used by a chimpanzee
End result... A trained photographer will whore themself for pennies.
  3. 3) The Internet (big one here)
    It kills innovation.
When the little independant inventor, film maker, musicien, etc. Can not make a dollar to pay their bills because of piracy. They give up and go get McJobs
    It makes people lazy.
Even car sales are down because there are now millions of people that never leave their houses. And it is not just car sales.. It is resturants, theatres, etc.
    It kills freedom of speach.
Look at yahoo as a good exemple. eg. * This comment is hidden due to low rating.* If you do not share the popular opinion you get silenced. That is what all this facebook, yahoo, etc likes and thumbs up are all about. *censorship*
    Or..
Another exemples is the forums. 10 people having a conversation but some idiot that has nothing good to contribute starts complaining and find some moron that is bored. So they start to argue. Then 3 people that have no sense to ignore them also start complaining and the entire conversation gets terminated or abandoned.
    Or...
There is garbage like HBGary Federal and persona management software where 1 person can appear to be a thousand. Similar software used by huge cyber firms paid by multi-national companies and gouvernements to slander, smeer and mock anyone showing any intelligence.
    It makes people stupid...
Look at the occupy mouvement as an exemple. They actually believed that by just occupying a public place and facebooking or blogging they could take down a gouvernement.
    It kills jobs....
Facebook, Google, LinkedIn and Groupon earn more than 80 billion dollars each year. But they employ less than 18thousand people world wide. When you consider how jobs they have destroyed.
    It has increased corruption..
I love this statistic. Because of the Internet, fiscal fraud has become the fith largest nation in the world.
  4. 4) The handheld gadgets...
Have made an entire generation illiterate idiots....
What started with computers and spell check has now finished with "texting". A dictionary will soon be needed to bridge the generation gap.
    Create social morons...
I can not imagine how many times I have seen a good looking young man sitting in a park or someone place else playing with his "gadget" suring female facebook profiles while lots of attractive young ladies are nearby.
Add to the gadgets the following...
Having to be careful of bringing attention to yourself in public because some asshole with a camera will take your picture.
No one being able to read a lousy map.
Family photo memories are now on gadgets and tend to only last until the next upgrade

Am I mad ? Of course I am ! I have grand children and I would like to see them have a good future too. But the majority of the world is a bunch of dummies that just keep feeding into a system that destroys their lives instead of just abandoing it.

In the end a giant solar flare would do the world some good. Unfortunately 90% of the people living in western nations would die from hunger and exposure because they have no skills other than to push buttons.

1 - wealth in the USA is up about 400% over the last 30 years where as home values doubled. Out sourcing has made the USA more of a powerhouse, not less.

2 - You sounds like the electrician's union that won't use power screwdrivers because it costs jobs. Higher productivity is a good thing not a bad thing.

3 - The internet is probably the greatest technological innovation in our lifetime but whatever.

4 - We are more literate. There has always been a generation gap this is not a new thing.

Seriously this is a goofed up view of the world. We are lazier because we drive less? The average person today lives like a king compared to when you were born. Their access to the world has increased exponentially.

noinmybackyard is an old man who needs to be put out to pasture. things change. i'm sure people said similar things as you have before the industrial revolution and so on, and so on. change scares you, you want things the way they were when you were young because those were your best memories. and really, people of your generation had far less education, it was typical to drop out of highschool. so your idea that everyone today is dumb is just your old man ignorance talking. and if knowledge was so important to you, you would of learned english long ago. Quebeckers are screwing themselves if they stay in their little province, ignorant to the rest of the world that does business in english. the chinese know this, and young quebekers are speaking english more now than previous generations, so maybe they get it.

The average person did not fly across the country or world, now they do. I am sure when you were younger they did not have much in the way of TV, cell phones, computers etc. You drove shitty cars on shitty roads. I understand that things have changed but in almost every category it is for the better. Not sure how it is in France(Edit: Canada) but I assume they have benefited like the rest of the world.

Congrats on knowing a second language. Your grand children do too.

Bref we had television.. music... radio... air conditioning... etc

However to help you out I will tell you some of the things that you have today that we did NOT have back when I was a young man.

1) Gadgets ie: cell phones, tablettes, etc
2) Home computers
3) Microwaves
4) More plastic in the pacific ocean than there are living organisms.
5) OGM food and pesticides
6) Nuclear waste
7) Wars fought using depleted uranium and 3 of them being fought simultaneously with more on the way
8) An autism epidemique, a cancer epidemique and AIDS
9) Walmart
10) University graduates being forced to work at McDonalds
11) Fiat dollars and national debt in the trillions
12) People who believe that bloging or going shoping at instead of getting off their ass to do something is the best way to protect their freedoms.

I have no dog in this fight but I would like to point out that here in the U.S. prior to the mid 1970's flying was much more fun and relaxed then it is in today's hyper terrorism alert world.

Also, the roads here in the U.S. were generally better because they were 40 years or so newer than they are today. My first drive across the U.S. was in 1978, in a brand new Ford Fiesta (40+ mpg) on smooth highway that was only 20 years old. The U.S. has not done real great in the road maintenance department and they are just now getting back to the fuel efficiency that they achieved in the 70's.

Just my :2 cents:

My first trip accross the ocean was aboard a ship.

I showed up at the port, spoke to a few to security man that directed me towards an office down the street... then a couple of hours later spoke to one of their ship's captians and the next day I boarded the ship as a labourer. So I got paid to travel.

I also had no passport and no identity cards. When we docked I took my paycheque and entered the closest bank. The bank gave me my money without a question.

I would like to see anyone do that today.

Exactly
People need to man up and take the entitlement dick out they mouth long enough to become worth the air they suck up through their ignorant mouths.

I've never worked a normal persons job or wanted to, but I will be on the street before I'll take a dime from the government. Fuck them.

One time I got so desperate I had to have a normal persons job. I worked HARD out in the cold for $8/hr like a slave. It was 1F outside and -20F windchill (that is very cold, to me )

I was there on time every time and working my ass off like an episode of roots
If even I can do it, fuck welfare and everyone on it

Most of what you said could cause us to become friends.

Seriously this is a goofed up view of the world. We are lazier because we drive less? The average person today lives like a king compared to when you were born. Their access to the world has increased exponentially.

Everyone lives like a king, even poverty level fucks have a/c and clean water and food. But everyone wants everything for free. And if you think these corporations from hell are going to be good to us, you're crazy. Most of our wealth is on paper. When our money crashes - and it simply must - all of that "wealth" will disappear. It's sick.

It's usual the biggest idiots who post all these wise motivationals every day.
The topic starter is a great example.

Not if you got on one of those comets or whatever the fuck they were
I guess maybe that was the fifties
But when those flew they broke in half and you failed to be alive anymore
They finally had to fuck around and submerge one to figure out what the fuck was happening

technological advances aside i would say your generation (my parents i guess) had it better than i. not so much when they were kids as it seemed a lot more typical to live in poverty back then but when they were adults, the economy kicked ass and things were made by americans/canadians but what happened? certain members of that same generation fucked the whole world over by creating a false economy based on debt. and now people like myself have to attempt to raise a family in a much less stable environment than my parents did.

Now that is scary but crazy thing happen !! :thumbsup

There are always people that the first thing they do when an older person expresses an opinion is accuse them of being scared, old fashioned and having nostalgie.

I am perfectly well in my head.

I know what year it is and I am very comfortable using the technology. (Despite enjoying doing things for myself)

I have also done business with indivudals that had broke fingers of people showing up late for a meeting. Considering that the majority of today's generation is nothing but talk... I am not scared at all. (The majority are so weak I could take a viagra and beat them with my penis before the medication gives me a heart attaque.)

Therefore the only time I have nostalgie is...
When I look at the young women of today. The young women of today work hard to be under weight, no breast, no hips and no class. I remember the women of my generation and you could find hips, breasts and a natural sexuality instead of just being vulgaire.

I look at my talent files and I think to myself I should be in the horror or freak show business. But then I remember that this is what people call beautiful today. Voia !! The only area where I say "in the good old days."

We are so spoiled and we have no idea. It's not until you go to another country and see kids trying to hawk you stuff on the street that you figure it out.

Don't mean to pick on you or anything.... But airport security is a breeze. I just flew to Vegas and it took me longer to order a breakfast sandwich at the airport than it took to get through airport security. I was through security in less than two minutes, no lines. Show your ID and boarding pass, take off your shoes and belt, walk through the scanner, put your shoes and belt back on. Easy.

As for the roads... I've never driven cross country. We make the trip from Sacramento to LA and back a few times a year, and make it up to Reno and Tahoe a few times a year also. Other than the fact that Route 5 is still two lanes, it's not that bad. There was one patch that was pretty bad but they fixed that a few years back.

Come to think of it, the only place I've seen shitty freeways was in NY last time I drove up there. Freeway was so pitted and gutted I thought there was something wrong with the rental.

I am not sure what generation you think I am from but I am a baby boomer. The "Me, NOW" generation. I grew up in a very nice house in Levittown, New York, hardly the slums and definitely not impoverished. I knew nobody that was poor growing up. Seems to me I encounter a whole lot more poor people nowadays then ever before.

Most things when I was a kid were made in Japan. Then later Taiwan and now China.
