.sex to compete with .xxx ?

from the article....

ICM CEO Stuart Lawley doesn't want anyone to steal his inside corner in the world of online adult content. If another applicant emerges for .sex, he's prepared to slug it out.

"We've been very careful and responsible in what we did with .xxx, and we don't want someone to take over what we've done as the incumbent," Lawley says. "We're trying to produce clearly identified content that doesn't confuse consumers."

(sorry if this was posted before - I just ran across it)

Search.xxx

Part of the brief is - Have they got the experience and the tech knowledge to run a top level domain?

Lets see - Who has that knowledge?

ICM perhaps? - Its a total set up....

Edit: They will also get it for a low price because they 'have experience in the field'.

There will be no trademark protective defensive registrations.

All domain names will have to pre-screened with the Trademark Clearing House.

New gTLD rules.

No applicant registry will get a special price from ICANN on a 'string' (the namespace of the TLD). ICANN sets their share uniformly on all the new gTLDs. If a string is contested the award is to the best qualified applicant judged by ICANN.

by competing, do you mean get the same organic traffic results as .info?

Competing as in dilution of search -- possible. .xxx, .sex, and .porn are all of the same genre (pornography connotations).

The idea of the new gTLDs is to associate the domain name with the genre of the content or in some cases the maker of the content or trademark holder e.g.; .ibm, .google, .cocacola, etc.

What is a better descriptive name of content?
trailertrash.info or trailertrash.sex?

If trailertrash.info is about life in the trailer park and trailertrash.sex is about getting laid in the trailer park; Which domain should be more relevant for the search 'trailer park orgies'?

I love the .sex extension but I wouldn't be willing to pay $100 a year for it. Fuck that. If it cost more than a dot com then count me out.

Your welcome!

Who cares, both are useless...they may compete "with each other"...
Just like the Arena Football League & the Canadian Football league are NO match for the NFL.

TrashyGirl 02-12-2013 08:26 AM

Did Google get approval to start the domain extensions they want to "run" - .lol .google .docs .youtube ? Mo' money for the big G and wonder how well those will rank....

Barry-xlovecam 02-12-2013 08:36 AM

I think that 99% of the trademark gTLD applications will be approved this year (May was the last date i heard) as long as they can offer the required back-end (e.g.; whois is service, DNSSEC). Public registry access is not needed as these are for "company use only."

They are part of a identity branding for various uses.

If you have any valuable domain names now trademark them.

Lykos 02-12-2013 08:36 AM

That would be only thing more stupid than .xxx

I wonder if all the Universities and Companies who bought .XXX to "protect" themselves have realized they have been scammed

yeah but it is cheaper to purchase a domain name, then have to deal with someone in Russia who built a teen website with your Univ. name. In which would bring shame to a Catholic Univ. :2 cents:
