Damn 1st day lauch, over half mil in orders on kick starter

Bet these guys are happy as fuck.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...d-printing-pen

Pretty cool gadget as well and not to badly priced. They are definitely hitting the right market. Not only is that likely the cheapest 3d printer but it's probably going to be fairly useful for people that do hobby/crafts.

lonerunner 02-20-2013 09:13 AM

Very nice gadget for fun and playing.

JamesM 02-20-2013 09:17 AM

indeed pretty nice.

Jman 02-20-2013 09:19 AM

Smart one ;)

Poppy 02-20-2013 09:25 AM

That is pretty cool.

yuu.design 02-20-2013 09:40 AM

another shit that i need now! :P

crockett 02-20-2013 09:45 AM

The funny thing is, that this is essentially just the same as a glue gun, so very low tech, but instead of melting glue sticks it's melting abs plastic.

I just wonder if it creates any toxic fumes..

CourtneyR 02-20-2013 09:52 AM

very cool.

Best-In-BC 02-20-2013 09:53 AM

I think it looks lame, even for a child, but hey, not my thing

seeandsee 02-20-2013 10:11 AM

looks like interesting idea but video is dead on my end

purecane 02-20-2013 10:27 AM

millions of people will buy that, use it once and get plastic shards all over their house, and stick it in a drawer never to be seen again.....$$$$$$$

Penny24Seven 02-20-2013 10:37 AM

Funny you mention that. The first thing I thought of was, "Wow, this is basically a glorified hot glue gun."

I don't see this thing catching on. Then again, I could be wrong.

Spunky 02-20-2013 10:43 AM

Another gimmick that will gather dust after a few times

CaptainHowdy 02-20-2013 10:47 AM

Damm hipsters ...

Barry-xlovecam 02-20-2013 11:34 AM

Internet money machine

Hey, they have raised $737,818 (the ticker just went up --$738,357 AJAX I guess) that's almost 1000 units? They will make $20,000 in a day?, flash in the pan -- Maybe ... It is $741,295 now -- in a few minutes?

I wouldn't recommend using it to doodle at the next Board meeting :1orglaugh

I think the fascination with the 3D Printing concept is the driving force -- an expensive etch-a-sketch -- now it's $743,541 -- Internet money machine ...

Yes this is the way I look at it.. It's why I wouldn't order one even though I'm kinda hyped up on 3D printing tech.

I do think it will be a hit for the art & craft stores.. I'm quite sure people that do that kinda stuff will eat these things up. The average person that buys it though, will probably stick it in a drawer after a few uses and forget about it.

Sometimes these kickstarter projects end up being a "careful what you wish for" scenario for the creators. Hope they can keep up with the demand.

MaDalton 02-20-2013 12:07 PM

i think they will easily hit 1 million usd today, this went viral and i just read an article on the biggest german news site

media 02-20-2013 12:15 PM

a few of their statements are pretty far fetched, this is not a 3d printer.. it's a glue gun that uses weed whacker string type material to feed through it.. almost a mig style pvc welder feed setup..

Also I don't think you can draw in the air with this, they should remove that from their product descriptions..

good for them though.. they'll prolly cash in bigtime with a manufacture cost of about $5-$10 per unit.

Im sorry dude but that is NOT drawing, that is stretching and stringing shit around while it cools up enough to stand straight up.. wooo I can make swirls and straight lines!!! haha

Watch the video.. It heats up the plastic but then cools it somehow and they do demo it free hand where they draw in the air so to speak. Granted it's limited what you can do in that aspect.

Besides that it's a sales pitch.. Do you really believe most porn ads or that Axe body lotion will get you girls, or that red bull gives you wings?

BigChad 02-20-2013 07:56 PM

Just what we need, more useless plastic products being produced.

I think you're right. Not everyone gets ideas, fewer get good ones, and almost no one executes. :2 cents:

shoot2thrill 02-21-2013 01:54 AM

why the negativity? clearly, these guys hit the nail on the head, good for them! FREE ENTERPRISE. Yah so its a glorified glue gun(we get it), they thought of it to make $$. We didn't. No matter how shitty/good/gimmicky this thing is, you can't take it away from them that it's selling. At the end of the day, does it really matter if joe buys this for himself or kids and only sees a few uses? Nope it doesn't. As long as the customer buys, it they can do everything and nothing with it. Who cares. Good on them for going with an idea and being able to make it. :)

It may be silly but it's a million dollar idea!!

But does it then float magically in the air, avoiding gravity? NO...
