Remember Stryper from the 1980s? They were a cheezy glam metal outfit that would talk about god and whip bibles into the audience. :1orglaugh

My tennis club is located adjacent to a church and one day a group of teens started blaring some Christian rock music, which was not only distracting because it was loud, but because it really sucked.
So one of my buddies with a booming voice yells, "Jesus Christ turn that shit down, or at least put on some decent fucking music like Black Sabbath, goddamn it!!!" Did the trick. Heart-warming tale...I generally see Christian rock or commercial religious music as just a crutch/gimmick for musicians that otherwise would never be able to build an audience following based upon their musical ability alone. There are exceptions, and many mainstream artists create music which is obviously influenced by their religion/spirituality. Cat Stevens and Dan Peek (of America) were both great songwriters that walked away from pop music due to their religion. I do like this song by Christian band Jars of Clay, produced by Adrian Belew (King Crimson, Bowie, etc): :stoned ADG |

I used to listen to Christian Metal right along side Satanic bands like Deicide.
Tourniquet: Living Sacrifice: Mortification: The Crucified (punk...on the above mentioned Tooth & Nail Records) |

You'd be surprised how much amazing christian music there is out there. I've got quit a collection of hard rock/metal from the days and I even DJ'd back at a Christian station with my own hard rock and heavy metal show. Bands like Holy Soldier, Sacred Warrior, Barren Cross, Deliverance, Tourniquet, Bride, were all amazing bands.
If you either listen to this full song or skip to the 4:00 mark, it's eargasm !!! Keep in mind, this song is 20 years old and how advanced it was at the time !! |
Rock music inspired by Satan is way cooler.
