Any Thoughts On Windows 8?

Need to pick up a couple of new laptops for the office, is it worth shopping around to try and find a couple of Windows 7 machines or should we make the switch to Windows 8?

Any feedback from those of you who may have already made the switch?

I use it. Don't love it or hate it. It boots a bit faster than 7 but other than that there's not a big benefit either way at least that is obvious to me.

7 will be fine for a while. 8 isn't bad like Vista but it's incredibly forgettable, almost like a service pack for 7.

Couldn't have said it better.

Just install a start menu and you'll be fine.

I've been using Windows 8 for 2 months now I can say that there is nothing really problem about it. Faster than Windows 7, but there is a lot of background process, which will eat more RAM.

Is there a way to change the UI to look like windows classic/ windows 7?

If still too complicated install Start8 or Classic Shell.

Don't like Metro? Don't use Metro.

There is no huge difference between Windows 7 and Windows 8 though.

Few advantages with Windows 8.

1) Faster boot time.
2) More secure out of the box.
3) Improved file explorer and task manager.

NiftyStats Jenna 02-22-2013 05:08 AM

I vote for Win7

So we picked up a touchscreen laptop with Windows 8 last night as a 'test' to see how much different the OS would be and have to say, its definitely quicker but, its confusing to us.

Going to be playing with this a little more today to see what the learning curve on it is like but I for one will definitely be needing to install a start menu app LOL

Webmaster Advertising 02-22-2013 05:51 AM

Oh, this was what we snagged...

Its nice enough, just Windows 8 is really confusing...

Juicebox 03-05-2013 09:42 PM

Running 7 on my personal laptop and 8 on my work laptop. Honestly wouldn't run 8 without the use of classic shell though.

The Porn Nerd 03-05-2013 10:12 PM

Seriously, no START MENU???

Fuck Microsoft man. wtf is wrong with them? NO ONE uses a start menu! Jeez Louise.....

THIS is why I just bought a Lenevo Thinkpad with Windows XP for $400 from Tiger Direct. Heavy as fuck tho....LOL

PornDiscounts-V 03-05-2013 10:18 PM

It's extremely good for multi-monitor setups. Each monitor can have its own independent taskbar and each monitor can be treated as individual monitors or a single large extended screen.

The native independent taskbars significantly improve productivity in a dual, triple or quadruple monitor setup, as we have here.

"Metro" is basically the new Start Menu. And just like Windows 7, and Windows Vista, and even Windows XP, you can toggle the "Start Menu" on or off with the Windows Key on the keyboard. It's really not that hard to click a single keyboard button and show the start menu or the desktop.

We have no problems with either Windows 7 or Windows 8 here. If anything, especially due to our multi-monitor setups, Windows 8 has very much improved productivity.
