there are obviously a lot of shows in NY and most of the time they are dominated by 1 niche. I have been to a bunch. At LegalTech - it is for technology companies in the legal vertical. It was 80% data mining. I felt it was good to not be a dating mining company there. Same thing with SIFMA, which is for financial vertical. It was 80% trading platform software. I dont do that either.
I like it is good if you DONT do what the majority is at these shows, as you stick out more. They are also national shows, so a lot of the attendees are from all over the US, when my business is just locally based. So that kind of sucked.
But the local tech shows that are more generic and not vertical based, I get great leads from. Its a good mix of vendors, not overbearing of any particular one. But if it is a 'Marketing' based show. You are going to get a lot of marketing people etc.
I know this is not adult. But just relating based on what I have attended this last year.
