Actually, the PR for the home page will remain because the back-links remain. If the back-links are for now non-existent pages, then a simple redirect can send it to the home page.

If the domain was dropped then re-registered, the seo value including PR is donezo. If it was just transferred then it is fine.

The backlinks to the domain remain - thats what makes it still a PR5. Even if you just re-directed the domain to another domain (using htaccess) it would transfer the juice
