The best Daytona wreck and carnage photos

Look at all of the people with their arms in the air during the crash. This is the true reason why many people watch NASCAR.

Running for their lives.

Could have killed someone. It went up over the fence.

This was right next to the tire. Looks like the tire hit his lower body and the suspension got his back.

He will receive a cash settlement, but still wear nascar shirts from WalMart.

No obvious signs of injury. Whatever it is, Obama did it to him.

Injuries extended far up into the stands.

The fence mostly did its job. The engine didn't go very far, but they do let people stand against the fence.

Odd how all of these seats are empty. Who were they reserved for? Why didn't they show up? Were they tipped off about a planned crash? Jews?

They showed the footage someone was shooting from their phone and I noticed how the fans stood up and threw their arms in the air cheering when the chain reaction started

Scott McD 02-25-2013 08:21 AM

I still don't get NASCAR.

I do love F1 however...

AllAboutCams 02-25-2013 08:35 AM

i would watch it more if they had corners and not a big oval all the time

pornguy 02-25-2013 11:45 AM

How much do these " Victims " get paid. and why the HELL has NasCar not come up with something better than chain link fencing.

Seriously. I understand still wanting the spectators to be able to see but shouldn't there be at least a gap between the seats and where the fence is. Seems like common sense when cars are flying around a track at crazy speeds.

HammerALL 02-25-2013 11:50 AM

Wow thats crazy - I would definitely be in the cheap seats if I ever go - way way way up

Agreed, race cars going left for hours on end. Boring as fuck.

bronco67 02-25-2013 12:44 PM

It's bad enough to watch cars go around in circles on a blacktop for hours...but imagine paying to see it and hoping for a wreck so you can dodge a flying radiator.

Red Ezra 02-25-2013 03:19 PM

I went to my first nascar last year at texas motor speedway - had a great time - glad i sat in the cheap seats now.

~Ray 02-25-2013 08:23 PM

I can see how some people can consider it boring, if it isnt what they like. I went to a MotoGP at Laguna Seca once, had some great seats on one of the corners. We got to see the bikes fly past, and then we got to wait until they made a lap and flew past us again. That wasnt all that exciting to me as I get much better coverage at home on the Speed Channel. With oval track racing you can generally see all of the action on the track from wherever you are. Personally I only care for about the first 10 laps of a race and then the final 10 laps, whether it's the Daytona 500 or the Monaco GP.

Accidents happen. The people that got hurt didnt deserve it any more than the people that got hurt at the Reno Air Races in 2011 or people that get hurt when something goes wrong on a rollercoaster. Life is risky.

They have a soft barrier before the concrete wall, steel posts and chainlink reinforced with heavy steel cables. But that is all obvious in the photos.
