Responsive vs. Dedicated Mobile Site: Which is better?
 

Is it better to have a responsive site, or a dedicated mobile domain for seo? What about user experience? Discuss please.

Discuss what the seafood sensation at Subway is really made out of instead.

Nobody really knows but i know for fact there not a shred of crab meat in it!

I dont know about seo but I know that people that use a smartphone hate to have the mobile version of the website instead of the real website.

Responsive for sure. Even if you have a real nice mobile keyword domain, put a responsive design on that too.

Responsive design all the fucking way. Why have two different sites when you can have one that works on every device?

I agree, and I guess the sites that are too cumbersome for responsive just build apps. I would say having an app for your site is better then a responsive site though.

Responsive, however becomes messy on large sites. Responsive design will really take off in the second part of the year, there are still things in the works.

I prefer to make a custom site for mobile that is served up by the CMS without changing any urls or anything. All custom tailored for mobile devices. More to a mobile site than a design that fits in it, so just using a responsive design isn't gonna do anything.

Sure you can hide elements while on a mobile device via your responsive design, but you hide 2/3rds of your site and they still load that stuff, it slows down the users loading as not everyone is on Verizion LTE 24/7.

Responsive only works well for certain types of sites. For a lot of sites the user experience is far better if there's a dedicated mobile version.

Responsive because there are so many different sizes of mobile.

NaughtyRob's post made me realize I should have said this in my first post -

Elevated X CMS default setups use responsive design for tablets but we use dedicated mobile versions for phones. The smaller screens need more than just different formatting for the user experience to be ideal for the user.
