Accepting Bitcoins on an adult site?

So I have some sites I want to switch over more to a donation model since affiliate revenue is down and they have a lot of goodwill with users. I'm barely using sponsor content on these sites so that isn't an issue. In the past I asked about something like Paypal for adult but it looks like that does not exist.

What about bitcoins? I know not as many people have them as paypal but it seems like it is rising in popularity and could be useful. Any hints for getting this setup or does anyone have any experiences to share? It seems it might be a great way to get around the billing company BS as well with the only downside (other than proliferation) being the lack of recurring charges.

The only problems I would see is with minors using bitcoins to buy a membership (unless you have some sort of age verification in place with bitcoins).

i saw a site yesterday accepting bitcoins..

can't find it :(

Last I heard bitcoin transactions take 30+ minutes to actually be processed and go through. So.. enjoy that hurdle I guess.

Thanks NoWhErE. These sites I call adult but they are only 30% porn. Just enough for me not to want to risk my paypal account. They are already currently wide open and the bitcoins would strictly be for donations at this point. I would put up a button and let users donate if they wish as a way of supporting the site.

That sucks but for me it's just donations at this point so it wouldn't matter.

Fake money for fake owned content, sounds good to me.

I can't say too much or I'll give it away but the only real porn on the site is from me and affiliate content where I'm trying to monetize. I discourage porn on these sites. The real draw is the community itself. That's why the donation model should work.

For Bitcoins as long as I can cash it in for real money using an exchanger that's good enough for me. :)

That was never a problem, since minors can actually use the parent's credit card, or get an additional credit card. The only age verification that works is the RSA blocking, only if the parents activate it on the children's computers; and the good will and faith on the website visitors.

Anyway, if a minor, or a priest, want to watch porn, or steal from Wal Mart, or hit someone, they will do it, no matter how many ridiculous barriers you put between them and their "crime".

TheSquealer 03-01-2013 03:35 PM

haha... i totally forgot about that. How many people have been around long enough to remember the big link lists and tgps asking for PayPal donations to "keep it free" and made 5 figures a month from that??

No debate there. Of course they can access a site if they want to. But at least with a CC there is SOME level of security. If he used it his parent's CC they would see the charge and he might be busted. I think you also need to be 18 to get a CC? (not sure about that tbh).

Anyhow, the whole minor thing was the only drawback I could see from using bitcoins on a site aside from the value of the coins dropping to 0.

I was commenting in general and not about you specifically. Good luck though.

I believe the guy that owns Camwithher accepts bitcoins on all his sites now. You can use BitPay to process the transactions. If you want to just get the cash from the transactions BitPay will deposit it into your account the next day I believe. (you don't have to be victim to the market volitility) You can also keep the bitcoins or do a percent cash and bitcoin split. Fees are around 1 to 2 percent or something like that. No chargebacks and no you don't have to wait 10 minutes.

Edit to add: if you're just wanting donations, you just paste your bitcoin address on the page, no button needed or processor.

One of the best ways to go from bitcoin to cash that I have used is http://fastcash4bitcoins.com You send them coins they ACH into your bank account. Or mail you a check and some other methods.

I like this idea. For each model you could give a separate bitcoin address.
Get a bitcoin wallet. Create a separate address for each model and put her address under their picture. Looks like this 184ESH4pBcLKKqma4eoqnktAtnLAZxsoFr

Maybe put an e-mail comments form under it. Where the fan could put their e-mail address and put down how much they sent. The model could e-mail the guy back for a thank you and special pic.

You could also go to Rugatu and look around too. You can offer bitcoin bounties and people answer your questions and can give you some input. They can give you some more professional input on accepting bitcoins.

Oh yeah. Takes a while to sync up a download bitcoin wallet. You might want to check into something like instawallet. It is an online wallet. I don't know how it works.

Use the wallet on blockchain.info instead. Instawallet gives you a URL to access your wallet.. you lose that URL and you are screwed.

About the age of people using bitcoins: I can tell the real money for cam sites is from guys who is 35 or bette 40 years and older. In cam to cam you see 70+ year olds faces often, they sit on money and are the best customers.
Less and less pay users are under 20 or even under 25, if I could filter out traffic I buy by age I would set it to 30+ really.
Now the question: how many people 40+ year old is going to use bitcoins at any time in the future?

Many teenagers today have debit cards so even sites accepting CCs can't really say its for age verification anymore.

I would think the biggest problem is anyone who knows what a bitcoin is, likely also knows where to find free porn and doesn't buy it.
