Idea Needed: Things to hand out at seminar or "swag"

I'm holding a few learning seminars on Internet marketing this year and want to try some "out of the box" ideas besides the usual pen, paper and coffee cup.

A single page brochure and post cards with offers like "free competitor analysis" and stuff like that will most likely not change, but what have you gotten at seminars or shows that you thought were cool?

This is a mainstream event, so I have to keep it clean.

I was thinking maybe some single serving coffee cup with coffee (partner with a small business that sells coffee), and maybe some cookies and candy in a custom printed box.

I'm trying to think of something everyday use type products so they will continue to see our name and product.

Thoughts?

Hand out some condoms so they are prepared for when they get fucked up the ass from not learning anything meaningful from your seminar.

Consumables that you have mentioned won't achieve this. Perhaps usb with your logo printed on it, bottle opener, mouse pad etc All been done, however they are reusable items.

I normally throw out most things and keep handy items ie bottle opener, mouse pad, car scent, usb stick etc...

What's your budget? Ideas will depend on that.

2MuchMark 03-03-2013 03:27 PM

I would suggest not to use any single-serving or single-use anything. You want people to see your brand again and again, so single-use is a waste here.

I would guess things like coffee mugs might be good, especially if they are nice. People will keep them and use them often, and they are big enough to display your brand nicely.

One of the coolest things I have ever gotten from a sponsor was a branded USB drive with all of their free promo content, banners and FPA's on it. The drive had their site name and url on it. I happened to promote them pretty regularly so having the content was handy and I still use the drive today even though I no longer promote the sites.

So, may be a USB drive with your name/info/logo on it and some cool software/documents/files etc loaded onto it.

96ukssob 03-03-2013 04:44 PM

Budget is about $10-15 for our "free" seminars and $50 for paid ones.

I found pens that had a USB drive on top, pretty cool. One company makes single serving coffee cups, you just add a scoop of coffee/tea bag to the top and add hot water. Pretty cool IMO but they are pricey at $11 each.

For free seminars I'll probably have a drawling for gift card or something and paid will have an iPad.

I remember some of the seminars I used to go to just to get the stuff, but as much as I'd like to be "that cool company" I want people here to sell them not feed and give them gifts haha

USB drives are always great, plus they get shared and get your logo out there.

Fridge magnets, sounds simplistic but our refrigerator has a ton of them on it from various places, fast food joints, hosting companies, affiliate programs, realty companies, etc...

Even if it isn't something that will get 'used' if it makes it onto a refrigerator it'll get seen every single day... Maybe toss some info on it to make it 'sticky' terms of internet marketing, resolution sizes, bit/byte/gig/tb conversion charts or some such info?

2MuchMark 03-03-2013 09:57 PM

I received a surprise gift from Google a few months ago. It was a small box that contained a black Google Cap, a few small bags of some really delicious coffee, chocolates, pens, note pads, Adwords coupon codes, and a few other things. I thought it was great.

Shoe Laces with you url.

For $35 you could buy Raspberry Pi for the paid and still be under your $50 budget.

Loaded up with a custom Linux install with all your branding.

Who can't think of something to so with one?

the Shemp 03-03-2013 11:43 PM

I was going to suggest the USB sticks. As tech people can always use them.

One really cool thing I received at a trade show was a 2 dollar bill with a sticker of the companies name on 1 side. A small stick that was removable.

I think the 2 dollar bill is a great idea for a few reasons. 1. It only costs 2 dollars each. 2. everyone wants free money. 3. the mystique of a 2 dollar bill not being in circulation much.

People were running to this booth to get the money

The people that attend such seminars are DOA anyway. It doesn't matter what the content of the seminar is. They will never do anything with it.

The "make money online" seminar crowd is the same as the real estate investment crowd. Just a bunch of looky loos. So from the speaker's standpoint, it's moreso about providing an entertaining evening than being real and laying things out the way they really are. They pay $x and go home feeling high on the idea that "financial freedom" is just around the corner for them. That's the goal of these seminars. To give attendees an artificial high.

The rooms consist of old people and low IQ idiots that want to "stick it to the man" and make money online from home instead. Nobody in the room is capable of learning even the basics of web development. So the speakers have to talk about automated systems that require no skills and crap like that.

Summer is approaching, you could do these colorful sunglasses , with your company logo on the side. It will attract people and it is still a fun thing to wear and to own. Good Luck! :thumbsup

Have you taken a look on Alibaba, there is a ton of ideas ( I am unable to post links yet ). There is a promotion section on Aliexpress which is full of unique and useful promotion products you could label with your business. Search google for Alibaba or Aliexpress, let me know how it works out.

Nice. Google doesn't send me anything. Or if they do the locals steal it before I know about it. :Oh crap

the foam boobs were always a hit. Literally in some cases

DamianJ 03-07-2013 11:53 AM

Best one I ever did was branded playing cards with the instructions for a trick.

Spunky 03-07-2013 11:59 AM

Free cheeseburgers and Dr Pepper for everybody!

Nissim-Payoneer 03-10-2013 04:39 PM

We gave these away at a mainstream event - they were actually a big hit. At one point a few companies from nearby booths asked if they could put some up at their booth, since people passing by were asking where to get them! Keep in mind that this was a major event with over 300 exhibitors and close to 10K attendees.

They are phone stands - the material grips the phone so that you can stand it up on your desk while working.
