Tell her straight up to mind her business. I had the same issue about a year ago. Got a call from her asking why we've not had kids yet (she never calls me personally) All I said was "with all due respect its none of your business, we will when we are ready"

Yup seems we are having the same issue lol. I've been with my girl for 10 years and we don't plan on marrying, we are both fine with this. We have a kid on the way and we own a house together. I'd rather spend our money on the baby and our home.

My mom is starting to get that way... Both my sisters had kids at a young age, and she's worried she's not gonna get grand kids from me... Why? Because I'm single (2 years after a small relationship, and 2 long relationships 1 having an engagement) and 28 in May... :S

The only power she has over you and the only influence she has in your life is that which you and your girl allow her. This is not about "the mother in law" - you need to sit down and talk with your girl about the boundaries you guys need to agree on, set and stick to.

This is going to sound amazingly horrible but people are no different than dogs. Show weakness, you get tested non stop. Establish dominance and be consistent and you're in control. Be the boss, establish boundaries and enforce them.

We can't afford a (kid / wedding) right now, but we're planning on doing it as soon as your daughter inherits the money from you to pay for it. That should shut her the fuck up and guaranteed she'll never bring it up again.

Weddings don't have to cost that much. I spent only about $20k on our wedding, but the reality is that I didn't even have to spend that much. I just wanted a really nice event and a good party. The fact is that we had a Hindu ceremony and the next day we had to go to the courthouse and have a civil ceremony for 40 dollars anyway. I could have just done that, and it would have been just as binding and provided just as much legal protection for both of us and our son (who was born years later).

Those who say that "weddings are too expensive" are thinking of the choice of making it a big deal, when you can just as easily choose to do it very simply and for less cost than going out to dinner.

I think that the only reason that people should get married is if they are planning to have children together, but if you are going to have kids, then getting married is a huge advantage. It provides all kinds of legal protections and access that makes your childrens lives much easier, as well as your own.
