So without knowing i sat in the tail end of a 500 million dollar deal tonight :)
 

Forgive me as its 5am.

I have been coming to China for the last year and staying at a high end hotel.

I made friend with this guy who is the director of a plant here with 4000 employees.
he is an american.
we drink together at night, over the last year.

Anyway....a major company that he has been working on was close on a major deal.

I sat there all night cracking jokes thinking it was a small deal.
I speak the guys native language, so the big wig,, who is president of this company which i wont mention, but is massive beyond the scope of what anyone here would guess.

Anyway, i asked the president of that company to include my "something" in his "something"...and he kind of just laughed at me.

however before the night was out..he took my picture three times, showed me his whole family....this guy had one drink...while his 12 employees were asleep...then hung out for 3 more hours shooting the shit.


The american, has promised that if the deal goes through he will remind the other party of what i asked.

Anyway....what i want to say is...im super excited, i have never been involved in deal that big....i wasn't actually involved. However the american said he is positive i drove it over the top by speaking the guys language. In fact the guy asked me if i worked for that company.


So, i just wanted to share this piece of news here.
IT doesn't sound like much, but i would never in a million years get an audience with a guy at that level....so please wish me luck.

I actually do wish Phoenix good fortune in this as I once had a similar situation; although with the OP being a Russian I never believed he would actually pay me.

In the event I got bank the afternoon the deal was concluded and he still sends me a Christmas email each year (since 2006!!).

I just wish he would have such a need again; my funds would enjoy another such top up :)

I can honestly say that I have never been more happy or felt more inspired that somebody I don't know, may get something I don't know as a result of some kind of contribution to some kind of negotiation between two other people or companies that I don't know.

the deal was already over....they have worked on it for a very long time.
they had been touring the plant for the last couple days.
and had been to dinner already.
the big wigs 12 assistants were asleep, he came down to just hang out with the american.
Since i live at this hotel here, it is sort of like family...there are only a handful of people who speak english around here.

So what i did do for the American is make him feel really good about his chances of closing his mega deal. However, i think he already had it, or else the big wig would not have come down to just hang out. Especially for many hours, no business was discussed, just shooting the shit.


So i was not brought into the deal....i wont get any money from the deal.
i may be able to get something from them though for my company here. Something from both companies. if either one gives me what i want then all my trips here have been worthwhile.

To me just hanging out with that big wig was cool. I now have a very high level contact somewhere that i can try and leverage.

Yes i am in the middle of china. I come and stay for a month at a time, several times per year. I am still drunk and i slept for 6 hours...lol

i wont make money from it....to me it was just exciting to find out how big a deal they were doing. it was for five items...each worth 100 million each...i believe usd...not RMB
but even in RMB that is big money

if you are good looking and friendly in china...you can have many girls fairly easy
