Say what you will about him, he's right.
Mr. Carolla is in a unique position in the fact that his pay is funded through sponsorship and affiliate programs that aren't directly tied (enough to pull the plug) to any corporation (his pirate ship). As a result he is able to talk directly about reality.

It was an interesting podcast, Gavin Newsom kept dancing around like any good politician does simply because that's what you have to do to stay in office.

Few if any will publicly agree with him because of the repercussions.

Anyway, it's a good show, consider listening if you don't already. I also dig Marc Maron and a few other podcasts.

I wouldn't think it would take extreme analysis to really understand that there is a fundamental problem here: A stable and traditional family in most homes and of course a love of education in general.

Of course that's a problem and also its the first place they cut education is the bad neighborhoods. Its not a simple answer

Though I agree with your statements, it's a poor stance to just condemn it as too complicated.
Very few things are ever resolved or blow over by doing nothing.

I was listening to the podcast when it went live and was laughing my ass off. Its simple. Gavin brought up "blacks and latinos" and when later cornered by "why those two groups", he wouldn't give a straight answer because like any politician, he reflexively talks in soundbites and wasn't prepared for a long format and real discussion.

Gavin himself circled back many times singling out blacks and latinos. Not Carolla. Carolla kept asking "why those two groups". He wouldn't answer the simple question "whats different about blacks and latinos - that doesn't affect jews or asians or anyone else" and kept dancing in circles around the subject. Its a legitimate question "why aren't Asians and Jews lining up at check cashing places"? Why is it such a crime to talk about it? Why does it make someone a douche? Why is it that the people who always claim to care and want to help are the last people to talk about tough solutions to complex problems and call anyone willing to discuss it a racist?

At the end of it all, a politician said something that bordered on a pre-programmed response to appeal to his voter base that was basically racist in nature and got called out on it and did not have a single answer as to what to do and didn't want to discuss the issue. Willing to say there's a problem. Not willing to discuss who needs to get their shit together or what needs to be done. Not willing to admit families are super important. Not willing to state that fathers need to stay home and raise their kids etc etc etc.

Family structure, or lack of one combined with sports/rap/gangster role models have fucked black youth's goals and expectations. Being smart isn't cool ? has more to do with the problem than funding.

The distinguishing difference between then and now is that "dumb" has become cool... and has been for many years.

This is true and to keep cutting funding in ghetto schools isnt going to fix it. Thats where a strong school is needed more there where there isnt that family unit

I agree with Carolla 100%

Gavin seemed like a very nice and very likable guy and he was a good sport for the most part. He just made the mistake of going on autopilot with some of his early responses not thinking about being called out on it or having to explain himself (which he clearly couldn't).

I did like the fact that he was a small business owner that had to deal with a very hostile climate towards small business and understood a lot needs to change there,... particularly in California.

But anyway, thats what politicians do. We need more people in the world calling it like it is and holding people accountable for their remarks, their positions, their spending, their track records, their voting records etc... i'm tired of idiots with a nice smile and 200.00 haircut who are solely in the business of getting re-elected, rather than tackling complex issues which pretty much guarantee you won't get re-elected. I don't particularly have strong positions on anything. The thing that bothers me is all the self delusion, the denial, the sound bites, the sensationalized headlines and the theater of politics which keep attention off the actual problems.

I grew up in Hawaii and getting good grades was cool, maybe Asian influence? Also any athlete was very aware of his grades and proud of them as no exceptions were made for academic ineligibility. Plus my father was a hard ass.

In the 60's and 70's rock stars got high all the time. You heard about studio 54 and the beautiful people doing blow all night long. You had John McEnroe losing his shit on the court.This isnt new.

I don't really know much about this specific issue in particular but I'm an occasional listener to his podcast and in my opinion his glory days are well behind him. Don't get me wrong, he is a GREAT radio host, but if you want the real Adam listen to some old episodes of Loveline (http://lovelinetapes.com/) he is absolutely hilarious and always on point. He's lost some of his sharpness in my opinion, mostly because his newer podcasts lose traction when he's bouncing off of too many people who are also on his podcast. He shines best when he's by himself or with Dr. Drew. Most people dismiss Loveline as a show for dumb teenagers, but they actually hardly take calls... its more or less Adam ranting 20 minutes at a time and then they'll take a 3 minute call... it was a great show. Or just Youtube some of Adam's best rants:
