What do you want to know?

I actually have a few questions if you don't mind. Everyone has this idea in their head that jail is nothing but fighting, ass rape and learning to be a better criminal all narrated by Morgan Freeman.

I have heard that is basically just boring. You sit around all day, maybe play cards and talk to other people. Was this what your experience was like?

I would say it really depends on the country you are in jail in :2 cents:

Yes - Thats pretty much it, in all honesty... Most of fellow inmates were mexicans - About 97%... So they all spoke Spanish :(

Naturally thy could also speak English 'IF THEY CHOSE TOO'... But the only time the chose to talk English was when the TV was switched from Spanish Programs to English Ones...

So TV was out of the question... We were not allowed books... Except for a bible - So I learnt that inside and out... But it was just really boring...

You end up finding stuff to do, that doesn't really make any sense other than to fill the day - ie - 'I NEED to walk up and down this corridor 500 times before lunch' or ' I NEED to read the whole of 'Matthew' before tea' etc etc...

If you are good at creating non existant tasks like those, time passes by much faster, as you are infact busier than you woud be on the outside, if you get my meaning...

Very True... Had I committed murder or a heinous crime, I would have been in with other murders etc, and things would have been different... But I had not - I had simply overstayed a visa in the USA and aside from the 'technicality' of the offence, aI had done NO OTHER CRIME AT ALL :)

i recently got my computer privileges back

6 months jail for overstaying a visa in USA ??
if that's true, are they fucking mad there..

in EU if you overstay a visa you would pay like 500 euro and will have a big problem getting visa next time.. in other countries, where USA says human rights are violated, worst thing that may happen is that they will depart you away...

Jail

Spent 30 days in the local jail, same jail our sheriff spent time in before going to federal detention for violating prisoner rights.
Best day was watching a prisoner get his clothes & property back before going to state prison. They gave him his plastic bag & can of spray paint. Fucker got higher than shit. Took the guards over 30 minutes before realizing what was going on.
You know it's bad when we had to rip bed sheets for missing toilet paper.

What about the wizened old con pushing the book cart from cell to cell in every prison movie?

I would have thought you made a chess set out of old feces and painted your walls with poo.

The owners of the prisons lobby hard for these laws, the same as Big Pharma lobbying to have kids injected with disease before they're allowed into school :2 cents:

100% True: I was actually 'inside' for EXACTLY 6 months to the day - (As long as the could legally hold me) Before getting deported. The 'Half' month part comes from time spent at 'processing centers' for about a week before hand, and a week after, while they processed me for jail, followed by processing me for the return home...

Sadly enough, Had you just stayed period, you would have gotten citizenship and a drivers license....

Yes, thats true - Keeping me there for the max time possible actually earnt them more money than it cost them to hold me :(

Had I been mexican, I'd have only spent a couple of weeks, before being bussed back across the border. But cause they had to send me to the UK, and I no longer had a valid passport, they decided to keep me there or as long as they legally could.

I was picked up by Homeland Security, when a raid took place to find Mexican workers - I got caught in the crossfire.

We weren't even allowed the local paper, a straight violation of law as that where any legal notices (such as divorce) against you had to be filed. Sheriff ended up with so many charges they quit counting.
Next sheriff quit & his 2 under-sheriffs quit same day leaving the county clerk as sheriff. Seems some gangbanger's granddad posted $50,000 cash bond. When it was time to return the bond, sheriff et al had spent the money, that was supposed to be held in trust. Oops!!

Food was so bad, you'll have to kill me before I'll eat another hot dog.

Jail is city or county, less than 365 days -- after that is prison, although you can be sentenced to prison for 6 months or more.
