Is reality TV out of control yet?

I'm thinking it might be. We've now got shows about teen girls getting pregnant, a knockoff of Jersey Shore done by rednecks and hillbillies (Buckwild), several ones about preteen pageant girls (and their idiot moms), a gaggle of housewives in virtually every city of N America all acting like bitches, morons and sluts for the camera. The Kardashians are milking their 15 minutes into 15 years it seems.

And the latest one is about teen daughters of pastors and ministers and how 'bad' they are underneath their parents' noses. Oooh. Can't wait.

Seriously, with no end in sight to the spewage on tv of 'reality' about pretty much anything and everything I have to ask...

when does it end?

When actors will take a smaller pay check than free with a $100,000 prize at the end?

Harmon 03-13-2013 11:38 AM

When they do a GFY reality show featuring bunch of formerly (self professed) cool guys, whom are now coked out fat douche bag dudes sitting around their computers all day eating Doritos, drinking beer and getting in virtual arguments with each other. This continues into all hours of the evening/morning.

Also, virtual porn whores periodically show up only for all of the fat guys to post things such as TITS OR GTFO or play white knight. Occasionally a fat, drunken loser will come around giving stock and or legal advice only to be followed up by a guy that claims to like POO and some other dudes with no teeth that are into conspiracy theories.

All of this occurs while people post pictures of Ferraris they never owned, houses they never lived in, and Photoshopped sales stat shots.

I can see this getting developed.

BlackCrayon 03-13-2013 11:40 AM

when people stop watching it.

Scott McD 03-13-2013 11:40 AM

Idiots make these shows popular. If nobody watched, they'd quickly go away.

I know some girls who live for these ridiculous shows...

tfs 03-13-2013 11:49 AM

No point buying cable or sattelite. History and Nat Geo are turning into reality shit. Discovery started doing it years ago. Food Network has turned into a shitty game show channel and and show about Guy Fieri eating hamburger, pizza, and tacos. If you want their old programming, you have to pay for their new channels. Television pretty much unwatchable now.

Asparaguss 03-13-2013 11:51 AM

It's only going to get worse as long as stupid ass people keep watching it.

JamesChoopa 03-13-2013 12:43 PM

It really is sickening. I will admit the only "reality" show that I watch is Duck Dynasty. It is literally the exact opposite of the drama garbage on all these other shows.

I find it amazing we (Americans) allow ourselves to be 'entertained' by such trashy people. Example: The Situation, Snookie, Kim Kardashian, etc... It's a sad day in America! lol

Cheapest TV shows to produce. No expensive people like actors or writers.

TV without talent.

I am so disappointed with Discovery, Nat Geo, Animal Planet etc. I used to have it on all the time, now I rarely watch it.

Thank God for Movie Central/HBO. That's all I'm saying about that. No comercials. No censorship. No news tickers taking up a third of your view screen with their loud beeping sounds and streaming crap about weather advisories and school closures during your show.

Between all that and the influx of reality, regular tv is a veritable nightmare.

As long as people watch it will never end . That's another reason i actually was thrilled to say fuck Tv cable the entire nine yards. Drama at its finest..... I am content with netflix if i even ever get time enough to sit down and relax haha

Yep, no talent costs, no expensive contracts, no big budgets. Fold the tents and move to the next group of wal-mart shoppers.

.

The_Peeper 03-13-2013 01:57 PM

All the "reality" tv shows are not reality anyways. They are all scripted and edited to achieve whatever the producer wants to or whatever sells. All of them are such jokes

Choopa_Pardo 03-13-2013 01:58 PM

Yet? What you you mean 'yet?'

In my opinion it's been out of control for years.

Rochard 03-13-2013 02:48 PM

Reality TV is utterly dumb.

MPGdevil 03-13-2013 03:56 PM

Tons of shit in tv lately. Worst I have seen is Dance Moms. Kids dressed like hookers and mothers trying to live out their own dreams and ambitions through their daughters. Fucked up.

georgeyw 03-13-2013 04:21 PM

Some are interesting and some have potential but are fucked up by idiotic producers wanting drama.

There is a restoration one (US of course) and it has great potential, but they completely fuck it up by adding in bullshit drama. I would love to watch that show if they actually went through the processes rather than having stupid ass games and drama.

Operation Retardo is an example of a show that should never ever have been made.

TurboAngel 03-13-2013 05:52 PM

I must admit I watch them all.

TurboAngel 03-13-2013 05:55 PM

Made this post while watching Survivor.

Oh, man, I know. Every time I find a "reality" show that is mildly entertaining I quickly find out it's staged, scripted, or reenacted. For example, I used to be a big Pawn Stars fan but recently discovered the show's staged. Items are supplied by producers and the banter between Corey and Chum has become so obviously scripted and horribly acted that it's not even worth watching anymore. There are no real "reality" shows.

(The other day I caught a few episodes of Bar Rescue on SpikeTV. It was fairly entertaining but I'm certain it's another fake show.)

I am waiting for the death matches.
Maybe something like you have to swing hand to hand over top of a tank of hungry sharks, in the middle of the rooms ceiling is a bag of money, if you can get it and keep from falling on the way back you get to keep it. OH but watch out some of the handles are greased.

harvey 03-13-2013 07:43 PM

Hell's Kitchen looks pretty realistic, nothing staged at all

Reality is not going anywhere for a while. it is by far the best business model for TV shows in terms of cost relative to ratings. scripted shows need studios, expensive writers & actors. reality just needs a fast thinking producer & a village idiot.

john FVC 03-13-2013 11:18 PM

I have to concede I am hooked on Real Housewifes Of Orange County and the Beverly Hills version as well.

I had always enjoyed Pawn Stars in the past as well, but hand't seen it in a while. I watched a few episodes last week and it was terrible. They had the old man ordering pies that they guys wouldn't let him eat because he needed to be healthy and Chum supposedly working out to lose weight. There was another episode where Chum wanted a desk so they put it in a few very inconvenient places and it was just sad. I enjoy seeing the items and learning about what they are and what they are worth, but the rest of the crap is terrible.

Here are some shots of Chum's house, cars and life now.

Holy shit! That's crazy.

Last time I tuned into Pawn Stars, Chum and Corey were scouring the shop attempting to find where the Old Man was supposedly hiding thousands of pennies. They wound up finding them in the trunk of an old car and the whole ordeal was so terribly scripted and acted out that it gave me total douche chills.

I love learning about the various items being pawned as well but apparently the majority are planted by producers. Makes sense I guess because, really, who's going to a seedy pawn shop in Vegas to sell sunken treasure and shit? Oh well. Another "reality" show bites the dust.

I saw a picture recently of their pawn shop and because of the show the place is so packed there is a huge line out the door and like a two hour wait just to get inside. One of the episodes I saw recently Rick wanted Chum to put a bunch of coins in holders and through the whole episode he was finding different ways to fuck it up. Obviously that is not happening and is fake.

I also read that the main guys on the show don't work the counter in the store anymore because people constantly want to take pictures of them and since they are a place that gives loans there are privacy laws and the pictures can violate them.

CDSmith 03-14-2013 08:06 AM

I'm not talking so much about the game reality shows either. I have no problem with Survivor, amazing race, fear factor and the like, established shows that have at least some entertainment value.

I'm referring more to all these hole-in-the-wall reality pieces of shit that have come out lately and are coming out more and more all the time. Like this 'Buckwild' on MTV as I said, it's just a bunch of country twenty-somethings actiing like morons, sluts and drunken idiots. Then there's all the shows glorifying teen girls who get pregnant. And like someone said the shows of idiot mothers who dress their 10 yr old daughters up like painted whores in these dance and pageant shows.

Real Housewives or Iran? (AKA "Shahs of Sunset") Come on!

TV shows don't try to target a mass audience anymore. Producers build niche specific ideas & engineer drama. the producers can't tell what will sell, so they produce a lot of crap & see what shit floats. So a big hit always conjures up copycats. pawn stars, deadliest catch, real housewives, jersey shore, all have spinoffs & copycats as everyone is chasing the same viewer who is momentarily captivated by the latest trend of the TV engineers. honey boo boo is awful, but a genius show if you are a TV producer.

so i guess im saying, blame the viewer, because the producers just cook up a lot of shit & its the viewer that keeps bad shows going.

Much of the newest reality tv crap is definitely pandering to the lowest common denominator of society, no question about it.

It's actually not much different in a way than Jerry Springer and all the ridiculous lowlife-level shit that show has foisted on the world over the years. And since people with that mentality number in the millions it consistently year after year gets eaten up with a spoon.

I still say Kim Kardashian is a celebutante wannabe. Had her dad not been the lawyer in one of the most infamous trials in the US a couple of decades ago she'd now be just another spoiled rich bitch face in the crowd.

BigChad 03-15-2013 07:45 PM

It's been out of control.. it's all scripted cheezy ass bullshit with zero content.

Si 03-15-2013 07:54 PM

Reality TV = False Advertising.

It won't be long before this stuff is banned if it isn't real. Just keep complaining and avoiding it.

Twistory channel is one of the worst. All these "daily life" thing are not only staged, but have fuck all to do with "history!". Dudes catching gators, or driving trucks around, or buying and selling shit from a few years ago is not history!

Add to that the pathetic alien shows and big foot or whatever and it just gets utterly pathetic.

Chosen 03-15-2013 08:41 PM

I don't watch TV so I don't know.
