Suggestions on strategy for my situation...?

Suppose (yes, I know 99% of everyone getting into this thinks they have the newest neatest idea that no one else has tried or even thought of.... I realize that...) but just suppose.... that I had a new great idea for content, something like I was the first person to think of anal sex.... and it was just a matter of time till I put my clips on clips4sale that other people would be copying me.... so while I would enjoy a few months of being the front-runner (because I spent 4-6 months filming content first), I knew that within 6 months to a year I would be flooded with copycats. Just suppose that I had a pretty solid original idea.

What type of strategy would someone here suggest for my situation, if I wasn't interested in the traffic/links/clicks that are a part of a lot of people's business model. Suppose I was only interested in selling my clips or having my own website... and wanted to spend most of my time producing new content.

Is a very successful clips4sale store a solid form of success, or is there a whole other level of potential having your own site with your own content, if it's moderately successful?

I know this is all hypothetical, and very general, but if there's a clear avenue that someone who (against all odds) did have an original, interesting idea should take, what would you suggest for this person...?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.... and I'm new to this site, and so far I'm enjoying how much I've learned from reading the threads.... :)

Sell your own content and establish a brand. If your idea is strong enough then its worth investing some capital in and thus it would be in your best interest to shoot a lot of content then put up a pay per site with an affiliate section.

Thanks. I often see people looking for someone else to handle 80% of the work/business when they have an idea, and (I love your phrase... "if your idea is strong enough") if they were sure that their idea was strong enough, why would they be so eager to share the equity?

I happen to work in mainstream film, and know how fickle this all is, yet how little it takes (just an idea- has to be a good one, but it all starts with an idea) for something to really take off. From professional experience, I know that this will be a solid niche (conservatively) and I wasn't sure if a successful clips4sale store would be the best way to keep most of it simple and in-house, but it sounds like with enough content, a site is a completely different level of success....

Is there anywhere that I could get a rough idea what certain sites make, so I can look/compare/get an estimate what's possible? Like how you can see what the top 20 blogs make in ad revenue, is there anything like that with adult content sites that are not "tubes"...?
