You never knew there was a statue of Abe at the Lincoln Memorial?

Or didn't know he was depicted on the penny?

really?

are you also curious about the others in the thread that didn't know either? do you think i shot a close-up of a penny to start a thread about my not knowing about the statue at the actual memorial? what do you think i would think would be at the abe lincoln memorial?

Zuzana Designs 03-15-2013 06:52 PM

Very cool. Looking for pennies and a camera now :)

right on!

i have to look super sharp to even see a little blob there without any magnification, but my eyes aren't the best.

Oh, I see. When you said "had no idea" - you meant you had no idea someone would ask what you had no idea of.

Good we cleared that up.

My question wasn't intended as an insult to whether you knew there was a statue there or not. I don't assume everyone knows there is. It was an honest question asking what you "had no idea" about.

That's all. I liked the macro - never knew it showed the statue on the penny myself.

Evil Chris 03-15-2013 07:25 PM

I knew.

Next time ask a Canadian.

no, communication can be both words and pictures, i stated i had no idea, then my next communication was the extreme close-up picture showing an object most cannot see without magnification, then stated i never looked close enough, taken together, as most have taken it in this thread, is that the statue is represented on the penny.

:2 cents:

gotcha, i see, you're the one who posts those cool photos of abandoned structures right?

i always enjoy those.

this pic certainly is not up to that level but it did take effort on my part, these macro shots have a learning curve for me.

Funny story (to me anyway) about a US penny I found up here in Kanuckistan a couple years ago in a McDonalds parking lot. I was taking my son there for lunch, an letting him out of the car, I looked down and saw a weird looking penny. It was an indian head US penny. I mean what are the odds of that?

Vendzilla 03-15-2013 07:44 PM

The US needs to get with the times and get rid of their penny.

They should also move to the metric system like the rest of the world.

Yep, I've been into the abandonment photography for a long while. Thx for noticing. :)

Macro is something I want to get into more. Need to get myself a more suitable lens, though.

dude, we missed our chance on the metric system, jimmy carter had it all mapped out, i was in grade school at that time and had to learn it, then boom, gone, keeping standard system, it messed with my head.

Evil Chris 03-15-2013 07:52 PM

I'm not sure where I put it, but I did keep it. Probably somewhere here in my desk. But yeah, gotta be rare.

it's fun sorting out the equipment for close-up.

the lens: getting a longer focal length is good because you can move back a bit and still get 1:1, and not have the lens get in the way of your lighting, but the dof will be tiny at all stops.

on the other hand, a shorter focal length means having to get super close to the subject to get 1:1, then your lens gets in the way of your lights but you get more dof range.

fun stuff to sort out.

$5

Don't know about the new fives, but the old style, if the bill was new, you can make out the names of the states going around the upper areas. Gotta have good eyes or a good lens.

Supz 03-15-2013 09:27 PM

Just remember. Since you saved that penny, you earned that penny.

I learned that in like third grade lol.

dyna mo 03-16-2013 04:29 PM

i was in accelerated learning, i tested out of the 3rd - 8th grades and they put me directly in the 9th grade so i didn't get to learn the crucial factoid that there is a tiny embossed abe lincoln on the back of a penny.

kinda sad rly. :=
