The Computer Tips and Tricks Thread - Share your little kown hacks to make life easier

I'll start:

This is one I came across a few days ago.

If you want to replicate a word or even a long piece of text, you don't need to type it out all again in a separate place as you have been until now.

Go to the beginning of the word or text you want to copy or replicate and hold down the left mouse button. Next, drag your cursor over all the part you want to replicate. You'll see that it is now all highlighted in blue. Release the left mouse button.

Hover over the highlighted blue and click the right mouse button, a field of options should appear. Select copy with the left mouse button.

Go to the place you want to replicate the text and press the right mouse button. A field of options will appear. Select paste.

And voilą, you have replicated the text in another place without having to type it out by hand.

This also works with numbers.

Please note, this only works on PCs, I have no idea if this is possible with macs.

Lean back in your office chair when the jizz comes out, so the keyboard doesn't get sticky.

Most people here probably know these, but these are the ones that are useful to me which not everyone seems to know. (most webmasters will know, I guess)

Windows Key + D = Take me to the desktop
Windows Key + E = Open windows explorer
Alt + F4 = Close page
Alt + D = Take me to web address bar

Oh yeah, thanks for the tutorial! :thumbsup

Ok, I'll tell you a secret nobody knows! You know all those fans and noises that come from your computer or laptop? There's a way to eliminate them completely, at least for a while.

You go to Start - Shut Down and click it. Depending on your computer speed and opened programs/documents, it might take a while but it will become silent.

There's another option - hold the Power button for at least 4 seconds. That is at some call it "summoning the silence in a heart beat".

Uh uh, another one for you:

On a tube, if you happen to get stuck on a video that shows green instead of normal image, click right on the video - Settings - Uncheck "Enable hardware acceleration".

Actually, this is fo' real yo'. Might be happening only to ATI video card users... who knows?

Here's a way to be much more productive. Grab your PC and throw it in the garbage. Replace it with a brand new Mac. You'll get twice as much done in half the time, live a happier live, you will get more girlfriends and they will all blow you more.

sarettah 03-20-2013 01:27 PM

If you run out of harddrive space go through all of your documents, do a select all and change the font to the smallest font available then save the document. You will free up loads of space this way :thumbsup
