Another Reason I Live In Oregon

The trees started budding in late January, and now flowers are beginning to show here and there. And you guys are still dealing with dirty snow back east, right?

Nya-nya-nya-nya-nya-nya!!! :321GFY

hershie 02-22-2003 11:48 AM

the cherry blossom trees are already budding even this far north on the west coast.

UnseenWorld 02-23-2003 01:12 AM

More "eat your heart out stuff." I took these shots around Portland this afternoon, while you easterners have roofs caving in, dirty snow piled up all over the place, etc.:

Yeah? Remember this when we have to buy our drinking water from the stores because there is none is the reservoirs. This years drought is gonna suck.

Remind me to travel a lot this summer.

That pic of the pretty park block: You should have turned around and took the pic behind you of the Justice Center and all the inmates they are releasing because of the budget cuts.

Yeah, but it's a false spring. About 3 weeks ago we had about 10 days in the mid-50s. That tricked all the buds.

Next week it's supposed to get cold again and kill everything off.:(

Never happen. You can quote me. I'll eat crow if I'm wrong.

Oregon is a great state, very liberal, no sales tax, great if you love the outdoors.

Our economy is bad right now, but hopefully it will fix itself within 1-2 years.

We should do a get together soon.

When we used to run a large bbs / isp in the 90's, Rose City Online, we had parties and stuff all the time, it was a blast!

I have always wanted to visit Oregon. I applied to a uni there and got in but ended up in Boston. My dad went out there for a week when I was a teenager and kept telling me I would love it. He is usually right when it comes to matching me with locations.

J-Reel 02-23-2003 05:12 AM

1 hour to the mountain, 1 hr to the coast.

I went through a phase where I was reading a lot of really awesome hip fiction coming out of Portland and I have this recurring fantasy about spending a month there guzzling coffee and writing the great American novel.

Damnit, I miss Portland!

hershie 02-23-2003 08:09 PM

Seems to me that there is a disproportionate number of people in the industry from Portland relative to its percentage of the US population. I imagine its a smaller city then Charlotte, NC or Jacksonville, FL...yet you don't see those cities well represented on GFY...

I have heard Portland has more sex industry per capita than any other north american city... Strip clubs (and other "dancers"), sex shops, porn, etc.

Is this typical for this time of the year or a result of the jetstream pattern this year? I seem to remember that parts of the West would be warmer because of this. A few years ago we had spring flowers in Jan and Feb due to el nino.

Oregon is a beautiful state from what I remember - mountains with snowcaps and a gorgeous coastline, not to mention vast forests.

I was born in Oregon and lived there on and off for half my life! Does that count? hehe

I love Portland, if I lived anywhere else it would be either Portland or Vancouver, B.C.

If you wouldn't mind -- drop me an email or ICQ-- seems we have quite a few locations in common...... (I grew up in North OC and just moved outta LO a few months ago)........
and since we are both in the Portland area -- maybe I'll make Aaron buy both of us a drink or two sometime =P

40 miles from Mount Rainier.....about three hours from Portland...

Portland is beautiful....Most of Oregon is, especially the coast line.

Here, where we are, the grass is always green.....

G'd, I love the Pacific Northwest...it truly is heaven.

Amp...Maui is beautiful, but you can have it, darlin'.....the damned bugs are bigger than me!

Oh, no, it's not true! Don't anyone believe that! Portland is a nice Christian town and sex has been outlawed.

In Oregon, you are in trouble with the law if you pump your own gas.

We also have no sales tax here.

That gas-pumping thing kind of freaked me out the first time I drove through there. This may have been partly because my road trip party had just passed a lot of logging stuff and the guy who pumped said gas was dressed like a lumberjack and missing one hand.
